Always wanted one (My mum had a 911 Targa when I was 9 or 10), but could never justify the finances. I could afford a cheap one, but then probably couldn't afford to keep it running. :D
I always lusted after one too, but as you say running costs are the killer. Allegedly the only thing more expensive than driving them is not driving them, they don't take kindly to being sat in the garage all winter.

I only run one car at a time (these days), so whatever I have is the "daily-driver".

(that might change if my partner ever takes her test).

I looked at Porsche then bought a Lotus. The Elise has to be one of the cheapest cars to own I've ever had, and I did daily drive it. 🙂

964 for me, closely followed by a 993. The later ones got too “hippy” and just plain wide. But I’ll probably never own one, unless I swap it for the MG TD that’s sitting in the garage. I don’t want 2 leisure cars at the same time. And: the TD doesn’t mind resting for months, whereas that would destroy a Porsche.

Why?
I know a standing car can experience issues with sticking mechanical parts, lack of lubrication upon start up, etc, but I can't see why a Porsche would suffer more than any other car.

Some of my vehicles don't get started for years at a time, aside from running it less than a mile up the road for an MOT then I don't think my Defender has moved off it's spot for over a year. My motorcycles have gone for years at a time without being started.

Short answer, I don't know why, but Porshes are well known for needing expensive fettling after they have stood unused for 6 months. Never having owned one I can't swear that is true, but if it is a lie it is one I have heard from several people, as well as read in the press.

Possibly really old 911s as likely have Cork gaskets that harden but can't see anything from late 70s onwards having that issue?

Friend has an early 70s V12 E-type and that suffers terribly if left - oil pouring from everywhere!

They'll need recommissioning (like any vehicle) and parts/labour will be expensive if you have it done by a proper place, so perhaps that's why.

I've heard the same thing about Ferraris but I assume it's the same reasons, I watch these YouTube videos of Ferrari specialists and if they're done properly they can cost an arm and a leg to put them back on the road after they've been sat somewhere.

There is a bloke that does them on the cheap but the car loses a lot of value if it hasn't got the right history and stamps in the book.

Whereas the TD is like an upmarket wheelbarrow. If it breaks, you fix it with a hammer. If that doesn’t work, it’s electrical. Any minor failure after not being used for a while with a Porky will involve somebody who actually knows about them in detail, ie not me or the AA man.

They should have photoshopped one of the Fab Four on the left pavement into the picture for accuracy. :D

I suggest had recently returned from tyre reprofiling and those were the calculations to adjust the coach heights back to standard.
