Yeah, I can't think who it is.

I'm pretty sure about, Whittam, McCallen, Hislop and Foggy.

Brian Morrison rode that bike, but I've no idea what he looks like, or if that's him?

He was an awesome talent but had a hard life
It’s been hard for me though. My brother killing himself after he murdered his wife, my mum killed herself at 15 and I’ve buried my daughter. I urge anyone to read my book and see for themselves just how hard it’s been.

He would have to be quite a nasty fucker to have all that going on in his head and still be capable of winning a world championship!

I think there needs to be no small degree of psychopathy inherent in the personality make up of any winner. They are not usually normal people.

They need to be ultra calm at racing speed, so that if anything goes wrong, lots of brain power to put things right.

I read it described better, but it makes sense.
Dull folk like Eddie Lawson and Nigel Mansell spring to mind.

Apparently most elite military pilots are utterly boring people for this very reason.

Ie, completely the opposite to how they're portrayed in Hollywood type films.

It's usually the calmest person that comes out of any situation on top.
If you can make immediate decisions without emotion then you're going to be making good decisions, quickly.

I read a story about Schumacher on a particular part of a track where the telemetrics showed that all the other drivers were on the limit of concentration, heart rate way up and 100% focussed on just getting around a bend, meanwhile Schumacher is calm as a cucumber, low heart rate and having a conversation with his pit team about getting wets ready because he could see clouds moving in on the horizon.

In soldiering they try and automation into you, so you don't even think about what you're doing - e.g. in a building clearance and your primary weapon jams, you don't think, you let it swing to the side and reach for your secondary weapon system, no thought process involved, it's almost an involuntary movement after hundreds of hours of doing it.
That way you can get people to not need to rely on brain power, it's Pavlovian I suppose.

More Skinner than Pavlov. Get it wrong you get punished/hurt. I suppose you could say get it right and you're rewarded by not being punished/hurt/deaded.

I guess the driving thing hinges on adrenalin is a bad thing when it comes to decision making/control so the drivers that can keep it it at bay longest stay calm and calculating. Which is why some appear almost machine-like (until the crew make a bad decision  ).
Doubt is not a pleasant condition.
But certainty is an absurd one

Always wanted one (My mum had a 911 Targa when I was 9 or 10), but could never justify the finances. I could afford a cheap one, but then probably couldn't afford to keep it running. :D
