Ian seems to be an usual name in the US, I met an American Ian once, he probably it "I an". It's easy to see how you could confuse it with Iron.mangocrazy wrote: ↑Wed Jan 03, 2024 12:04 pmYou may or may not know this but the term 'Iron' is old cockney rhyming slang for 'poof', as in 'Iron hoof' = 'poof'. The late great Bob Hoskyns uses this term a few times in The Long Good Friday.

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
I've been talking a lot with my mates son that had the bike accident back in September. It's helped him to talk to a fellow 'spazz' (although his injuries may well be longer lasting than mine, but he's appreciated having someone to talk to that gets the recovery process.
Anyway, a bit before Christmas he was struggling to deal with the insurance peeps etc, so I pointed him towards White Dalton Solicitors.
Well, they've appointed one of the partners to his case, who actually drove to Somerset today to meet with J and go see the crash site.
He's told J that even on a 50/50 he'll get a reasonable amount (over 500k) and if it goes totally in his favour, it will be more than double that.
It's not insignificant to him, but TBH I'm just really really happy for him that he's got something positive to look forward to from all this shit.
Also, there's two witnesses, the one witness behind the car that took him out said that the learner driver had crossed the white line often in the time they were following and the one behind J said that his head "might" have been over the white line.
Apparently the legal biker said that there was virtually no way that he could have been in that position on that road at the speeds suggested (J is very experienced and the driver behind him had said that he'd been consistent and not speeding when they saw him). So that is also really positive

It sounds daft, but I like picking mates up at the airport.
There first words are always about the weather.
And if they live here, they always say "it's good to be home"
Always a pleasant 15 mins drive back to our little town

Bought my wife a Beeline satnav for Xmas, unfortunately my 10 year old hand me down phone that she uses doesn't have enough battery life to last a day running it.
So I've bought myself a Pixel 8 Pro, and she can have my Pixel 6 Pro instead

Once you put the map onto the Beeline, you don't need to stay connected with the phone, only if you want to make changes.MrLongbeard wrote: ↑Fri Jan 05, 2024 10:34 am Bought my wife a Beeline satnav for Xmas, unfortunately my 10 year old hand me down phone that she uses doesn't have enough battery life to last a day running it.

But don't tell Mrs Longbeard. Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
It's Christmas, again
Lots of the kids at school here are descendants of British parents and/or grandparents and integrated fully into the schools.
At Christmas, they always get prezzies like in the UK. Some of the Canarian kids got a little jealous at times, so their parents got them little prezzies as well.
And visa versa.
Wins all round

It's January 6th and there's a daffodil out in my garden. I'm so far north that Leeds is the midlands, so it's usually the second or third week of March before I see a daff

New guitar strings Always leave it longer than I should and always get a pleasant surprise from the free "upgrade"
Need to find my wire snips though .
Gratuitous pic...they don't make em any more and I'll never sell it. So far as I know Manson no longer exist as an independent axe shop.

Do people still play instruments now? Thought computers and AI would have done away with them by now?

I don't even bother doing my own forum posts, since ChatGTP learned how to do my personal brand of bad grammar and spelling.
