You win that bet. It's a fancy Casio, aka G-Shock.

That would annoy the hell out of me, like my alarm clock that sets itself from the atomic clock transmissions. It is frequently a few minutes, hours or days out, thankfully I can rely my phone alarm. I want a watch to be consistent and not guess which side of a border I'm on.

Hmmm... My phone reset itself to local time as well. Maybe I should post in the other "Insignificant Things..." thread, Why can't my phone keep consistent time?Mussels wrote: ↑Sat Dec 30, 2023 11:44 pmThat would annoy the hell out of me, like my alarm clock that sets itself from the atomic clock transmissions. Cultural gifts make me happy. My nephews other half is Lithuanian. During the summer when we had a BBQ she brought loads of pork on skewers, that were flavoured in traditional Lithuanian flavourings and various other things, including dried or jellied pigs ears! At Christmas she brought us a a Sakotis tree cake. Normally this is turned on a spit in front of fire and layers of batter added, which we cant do, but apparently you can just eat it as is, or with a sweet flavouring of your choice poured over it.

Off to Leigh-on-Sea for a NYE (afternoon) drink. As previously said, I'm meeting up with an old mate I haven't seen since before covid lockdowns. A couple of other invites went out and now there's 5 of us plus other halfs/halves meeting up! Looking forward to it, although they're mad footie fans and Gooners too and guess whose playing whilst we're there!

Driving the wife's car.
When I got a new job I gave the wife my car as I needed some thing more economical for the commute.
Today she insisted we used it to go shopping as it needed filling up with go-go juice. As I was pulling on to the drive the check engine light came on. Bugger.
I reset the light (Torque on Android is aces) it was the Bank 1 NOx sensor. Then decided to give it an Italian tune up to see if the error re-occurred.
I took it down the by-pass in sports mode at 130mph between roundabouts. After spending the last year driving a 190bhp diesel I'd kinda forgotten how hilarious a moderately fast (306bhp) car is.

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
Woke up to the news that actor Ian Ziering had been "attacked by the gang of bikers in Hollywood". Was hoping it was because the twunt pronounces his name as "Iron".
Expecting to see video of him being bludgeoned by the Mongols, Vago's or HA etc, I was amused to see it was 3 kids on mini-bikes.

I have been commuting in a 75bhp Renault Clio 1.2 for the last two years. I can only dream of a190bhp diesel.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Mon Jan 01, 2024 7:50 pm Driving the wife's car.

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
I was down south Wales picking up a 1.6 Diesel Citroen DS3. Only 90BHP but its quick. and fun on the back roads. Sat at 75/80 all the way home back to East Lothian and a loony moment at 110. It only used 3/4 a tank of fuel and gave me 48.9MPG. Fantastic little car what apparently has a 120bhp version.

Selective editing by US media cut off the beginning of the incident. They started it as the moron in the blue hoodie attempts a sweep & gets it so wrong he almost took out his buddy & ended it as the fat bitch in the green helmet runs herself into the side of a car.

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
You may or may not know this but the term 'Iron' is old cockney rhyming slang for 'poof', as in 'Iron hoof' = 'poof'. The late great Bob Hoskyns uses this term a few times in The Long Good Friday.
