In 1984 I bought a TT prepared LC350 engine from Terry Beckett.mangocrazy wrote: Tue Dec 19, 2023 11:40 pmHow times have moved on - an early 2000s race bike putting out 57.7 bhp, and an over the counter road KTM Duke 690 now puts out 73 bhp...Bustaspoke wrote: Tue Dec 19, 2023 10:50 pm Anyone fancy a Tigcraft Supermono? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/225921846825
It was a buyer who didn't pay.
Had potential for 70 gee gees, but told me to back the timing off a bit for reliability for a season. Still 60 BHP
He built it for one TT race.
That bike was fun

That TigCraft uses an air cooled lump tho'
It'll race in a different class to the LC KTMs.

To be fair, it is only a 600 a/c motor in there, so always going to be a bit limited.mangocrazy wrote: Tue Dec 19, 2023 11:40 pmHow times have moved on - an early 2000s race bike putting out 57.7 bhp, and an over the counter road KTM Duke 690 now puts out 73 bhp...Bustaspoke wrote: Tue Dec 19, 2023 10:50 pm Anyone fancy a Tigcraft Supermono? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/225921846825
However the 690 spondon/yamaha i used to work on 'only' had 71hp in 96/7. That was good enough to win a couple of TTs though!
Yes, KTM are offering quite a potent package to the public though.

Re: interesting bikes found randomly..
The motor in question has been bored out to 660cc so the comparison is not that far off. Agreed that it is an air-cooled motor (as KFB and Demannu point out) and would race in a different class to any KTMs. Just goes to show what consistent development can achieve. And the 690 Duke motor isn't peaky or difficult to ride, in fact it makes a brilliant town/city bike.

What most impresses me is the detail in that auction listing, you don't get that on Facebook marketplace.

Re: interesting bikes found randomly..
They're popular with kids up here in the desert who like nothing more than baiting our local LASD off-road patrol crew. Three old, fat duffers on knackered Yamaha TW200's... & not just out in the desert, they ride the KX's in town. I've had KX500's & 250's pull up next to me at red lights more than a few times. Two weeks ago I was at a light next to a CHP motorcycle cop. Motivated youth on a KX blasts into the intersection, hangs a left & disappears up the road behind me. Cop on whatever kind of BMW they ride promptly does a U & goes after him. No frigging way was he catching the KX.KungFooBob wrote: Fri Dec 22, 2023 9:10 am Who's doesn't love a 500 smoker?

I knew Ducati made 400 Supersports and Monsters for the Japanese Domestic Market, but it didn't occur to me that they'd use the same engine in Bimota's destined for Japan.
This one has an interesting story.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/225910832245

This is number 51 of the 50 copies originally planned.
This is also reported in the renowned book “Bimota - 25 Years of Excellence.
After Bimota had sold all 50 pieces to the Japanese market, Bimota wanted to create another copy of their own for their own museum exhibition.
Thus the number 51 offered here was born.
This unique number 51 stood in the entrance hall of the Bimota company until it went bankrupt.
This is not only the last model of the Tesi 1D that was built by Bimota, but also the very last example of the Tesi 1D ever!
All Tesi 1D J 400 models were delivered to the Japanese, with the exception of this collector's item in mint condition, which never left Europe.

Interesting exhaust outlet.
Sammy Miller of trials fame had his aimed at the rear wheel, it was said to help clear the mud from the tyre treads.

Squeezing so much power from a 250 will be a crap result.v8-powered wrote: Fri Dec 29, 2023 2:40 pm Not sure if we've seen this one before or not....

That power from a 350 would have been a better ride with no extra weight.
