They're popular with kids up here in the desert who like nothing more than baiting our local LASD off-road patrol crew. Three old, fat duffers on knackered Yamaha TW200's... & not just out in the desert, they ride the KX's in town. I've had KX500's & 250's pull up next to me at red lights more than a few times. Two weeks ago I was at a light next to a CHP motorcycle cop. Motivated youth on a KX blasts into the intersection, hangs a left & disappears up the road behind me. Cop on whatever kind of BMW they ride promptly does a U & goes after him. No frigging way was he catching the KX.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Fri Dec 22, 2023 9:10 am Who's doesn't love a 500 smoker?
What most impresses me is the detail in that auction listing, you don't get that on Facebook marketplace.

I knew Ducati made 400 Supersports and Monsters for the Japanese Domestic Market, but it didn't occur to me that they'd use the same engine in Bimota's destined for Japan.
This one has an interesting story.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/225910832245
This is number 51 of the 50 copies originally planned.
This is also reported in the renowned book “Bimota - 25 Years of Excellence.
After Bimota had sold all 50 pieces to the Japanese market, Bimota wanted to create another copy of their own for their own museum exhibition.
Thus the number 51 offered here was born.
This unique number 51 stood in the entrance hall of the Bimota company until it went bankrupt.
This is not only the last model of the Tesi 1D that was built by Bimota, but also the very last example of the Tesi 1D ever!
All Tesi 1D J 400 models were delivered to the Japanese, with the exception of this collector's item in mint condition, which never left Europe.

Interesting exhaust outlet.
Sammy Miller of trials fame had his aimed at the rear wheel, it was said to help clear the mud from the tyre treads.

Squeezing so much power from a 250 will be a crap result.v8-powered wrote: ↑Fri Dec 29, 2023 2:40 pm Not sure if we've seen this one before or not....

That power from a 350 would have been a better ride with no extra weight.

Looks like all the extra weight makes the front tyre flat

Re: interesting bikes found randomly..
That's a proper WTF
However this line in the article sounds interesting; The total weight of the bike, depending on specification, can be as low as 160 kg (352 lb), so this thing will go like a bat out of hell.

Re: interesting bikes found randomly..
Well it's interesting, Messcherscmit BF109s had upside down Daimler Benz engines to get the crank in the right place to drive the propeller and have the barrel of a 20mm cannon running through the crank and prop, so upside down engines work, but I think having the crank so high in the bike is going to make it handle weird.
