Diagnosis MT'urder - MT09 won't start
Diagnosis MT'urder - MT09 won't start
Our Transit's down with electrics problems atm (again) so we only have one car (bit of a problem considering where we live) so it seemed like a good excuse to spin the MT-09 up to give me options. But oh no...
The battery is fully charged[1] but when I turn the ignition there's a very loud click coming from somewhere around the rear of the bike, possibly from under the seat.
I've read in a few places that this could be the reg/rec and is a common issue on MT's as the ignition switch can stick on.

Last time I had to do such a thing I gave it a sharp tonk with a sizeable screwdriver's plastic handle.

100%
Don't fuck about with anything else until you've tried another battery.
If you've got some jump leads try that, if it starts you know everything else is fine.

I'd be tempted to stick it in gear and rock back and forwards a few times, then try again....

Put an insulated handled screwdriver across the solenoid terminals and see what happens.
Does sound like a deed buttery though!

The first thing I'd do is put jump leads on it to rule out the battery.

Put a known good battery in the equation via jump leads, or use a jump box or whatever, if it still clicks then turn your attention to the starter solenoid, you can bridge the connections so you are applying 12v directly to the starter, this takes the solenoid out of the equation, if it still doesn’t turn over then your problem will be the starter.
