The amount of sleep you need decreases with age. I've never had any trouble sleeping. In my 30s I'd sleep eight hours and wake up feeling great. In my 40s I'd sleep seven and a half hours (you could set your clock by it) and wake up feeling great. Now, in my 50s I wake up after five hours and feel great. I'm embracing it like it's a superpower rather than fret about it. I don't feel tired and my concentration and mood is good.

As Noggin said, there's not been much research into hormones with more research into men's hormones. I did a lot of my own research when I became perimenopausal as each doctor I saw had different ideas about HRT and the advice that I was getting was very inconsistent. Whatever opinion you want about hormones you could probably find a medical paper to back it up. Hormones don't do what you think they do. Oestrogen in itself doth not make a women and testosterone by itself doth not make a man. We all have testosterone and oestrogen and they both play a complicated and not fully understood part in being male and female.

I always assumed 3AM posts came from the UAE, gotta be honest.

Deffo an age/generation thing here, cause I check the old plums etc. I even talk to my wife about my feelings  Gen Z blokes at work talk to each other about em.

It would be useful to do annual checks on a whole range of things (could even save the NHS money if it's simple haematology work) as it's usually changes that are a warning rather than one off levels. ie a marked increase in testosterone might be due to a number of things that need sorting sharpish. Same with the old prostate. PSA levels can jog along at a level but if there's a 'sudden' increase it's a warning bell.

So yup, get stuff checked, regularly.

(I do get various things checked including the test for the delightfully termed 'occult' blood in my poo. Always imagine wizards and stuff when they use the term :D ).

Low testosterone is perhaps an evolutionary thing, we don't need as much anymore I suppose.
Trouble is that the body's production of hormones haven't kept up with the longer lifespan! Probably take another 'lots' of generations for it to balance out - or we'll all start living shorter lives??

That's one hell of a rate of evolution - a major change in one generation

True. We don't generally evolve that quickly. I remember seeing something about rapid changes in aquatic life resulting in infertility, imbalance in the sexes etc and it was attributed (proven or not. I don't know) to endocrine disrupting chemicals. I think the current trend away from BPA in plastics is because it is, or it produces, an EDC.

We may just be messing ourselves up. :(

It would be nice if I could find two GPs that agreed with each other.

There was a procedure that required the opinion of two doctors.

I kind of think it's almost an impossible task, for them as GPs and for us as GP 'consumers'. GPs can't be expected to know everything - I often sit there with my GP while he googles whatever condition I've come up with - yeah I can, and do, do that myself, but he's the expert that needs to have the final say on what's bollocks or not.
I like my GP, but does my liking of him influence my acceptance of his medical opinion? Probably. Of course it would be way better if I could get the opinion of two, or more, GPs.

To his credit though, I've not died on his watch - yet.

A terminal diagnosis requires two doctors but they can still both be wrong.
