The number I gave is for the crowd I worked for, it's several businesses under one roof, Gerry has been relining something like 45 years, I worked with him for 13 of those years. there's nobody better.

I can reline shoes, but even though we worked in the same place, with the same tools, when it came to my own stuff, I got him to do it.

Ta for this BJ,I'll definitely be giving him a shout at some stage. I had occasion to call on the anchors today,down a steep hill with temporary traffic lights. I thought I'd left plenty of time,but it looked for a moment that I would need to shoot the lights! An emergency stop happens veeerrry gradually even with both front and rear brakes on full.

I discovered another charming feature of the H1 today. Since this was the first motorcycle that came with CDI,it was quite hairy arsed and Kawasaki briefly went back to points ignition on some later models because the CDI interfered with folk's radios and televisions.

This was confirmed when Mrs.Skub's dab radio informs her 'no service available' when I start the bike.

I managed to bag an original 71 H1 fuel tap off evilbay and my plan is to change all the gaskets and have it internally adapted to replace 'prime' position with an 'off' position,which I'd find more useful and it'll still look stock.

If you take the vacuum pipe off prime becomes the only on, but you won't have a reserve.

My main reason for wanting an off position is,the old triples are prone to leaking oil past the check valves,then filling the crankcase. I don't envisage mine sitting unstarted for long periods anyway,but I like the idea of turning off the petrol,then at least I can keep an eye on the 2T level.

The petrol tap doesn't turn off the oil so it wouldn't stop oil filling the crank case. If you are really worried and want to watch for unexpected oil use A&Bs have the best oil level check - the tube down the side. You could put a cable tie around the tube and slide it to the oil level at the end of a ride, then you can see if it has dropped the next time you go out.

In other news,the Zed has been out once since I bought the H1. What's that all about?

Gnarly old original vacuum tap replaced with a simple on/reserve/off and the vacuum take off capped.

Early signs are good.

I have another refurbished original tap,but I can't see me putting it on any time soon.

If it’s some sort of pattern replacement tap, make sure it flows enough, because that’s very important.
