The great thing about Reliants is that you don't need to waste money on petrol to set them on fire, you just need a box of matches.

£10k for a shell and some parts that need 'light fabrication'. I think not.

That's the boy who claims he's the illegitimate son of John DeLorean and is getting sued by the people who own the rights ot the DeLorean brand.
Edit: he says it stands him 180k......

If I owned the rights to the DeLorean brand, I think I'd try to avoid any publicity in case anyone realised I'd paid good money for the rights and thought I was the fruit loop.Bigjawa wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 3:55 pm That's the boy who claims he's the illegitimate son of John DeLorean and is getting sued by the people who own the rights ot the DeLorean brand.

(However, the Texas Liverpudlian that bought all the old inventory seems to have done well out of it, but even he was sued by John DeLorean's widow over use of the brand. The original cars, Back to the Future not withstanding, were utter pants though ).

Re: Ebay 'WTF' bikes
The original design was supposed to be powered by a turbocharged 2.2 Citroen engine, but it was so impractical they got Chapman in and it ended up getting that utter pants 2.8 PRV V6. Chapman was being investigated for fraud before he died. Also the cars were assembled by rank amateurs gathered up from West Belfast and Seymour Hill. I can remember going to Lisburn on the train and seeing rows of brand new DMC12 waiting to get sent to the docks.Count Steer wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 4:27 pmBigjawa wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 3:55 pm That's the boy who claims he's the illegitimate son of John DeLorean and is getting sued by the people who own the rights ot the DeLorean brand.

My uncle was pally with a local motoring journo who had one for a road test. At the time my uncle was running about in a Vauxhall Viva with basically Firenza droop snoot running gear and a bit of tuning. It was much quicker than the DMC12.
I'd love one of the rebuilt ones with the 400bhp Kia V6 twin turbo motor in it though

Re: Ebay 'WTF' bikes
The original, original engine was going to be the 2.0l from the Citroën CX (having had a CX I know it's nobodies idea of a supercar powerplant ). They enquired about turbocharging it and Citroën said please don't! There were turbo'd CXs though - a 2.5 diesel and a petrol one in 1985.Bigjawa wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 4:39 pm

I still don't know if John DeLorean was a philanthropic genius/dreamer who was let down by everyone around him (and sort of honey-trapped over the cocaine thing) or a calculating schemer intent on siphoning off taxpayer's money. I like to think the former.

Re: Ebay 'WTF' bikes
One of my old uni lecturers, Mike "Ken" Loasby, was chief Engineer at DMC. Even he said it was a bit shit
Not enough resources to do it properly apparently.
He was also chief Engineer at Aston Martin for the original V8 Vantage in the late 70s and did the Sierra Cossie among others, so presumably knew what a good car was.

It's a pile of expensive poo, I'd rather have one with a mild road tune and a set of Allspeeds.
