Re: Which One?
If I was 10 years younger, I'd buy a new GSXR1000 and park it at my pal's place near Jerez and fly over to do some whizzing round

If I was to buy a classic, it'd be CBX1000. Seriously.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Tue May 02, 2023 9:26 pm Why not buy an Elsie?
You probably won't lose money on it. You can sit and look at it in the garage and remember the good ole' days.
If you want some excitement, try keeping up with your Panigale mate on it.
Now you've got me thinking

Re: Which One?
I honestly don't think there is another bike to suit what you want, as you already have them, and there is no middle ground here.

Re: Which One?
Aye. True.
I don't ride the Suzuki as much as I should, so hoping I could find summat to make me ride more.
Coz I do love riding bikes.

Re: Which One?
Aye. Couchy mentioned that.
They don't "carburate" perfectly, but I'm looking along that line as well.
The EC300 engine was more fun than the SM700.
I'd buy a 400 version tmrw.

Re: Which One?
Well if you call 166kg the same as 200kg I spose it it is....
Agreed on your second point though, the 890 ( or 790) is a much better road bike than the Gixxer
Take those blinkers off and try one - at least then you'll have a real opinion

Re: Which One?
Serious question... Did you use all the revs on the SM700?
As stock, they're VERY top endy for such a big single... Not much at all below about 6500, then they come alive to the 9k redline...
An open airbox top and stage 2 filter and a remap gives them about 10bhp more in the midrange (no more up top), which really makes them come alive. I kinda like how they feel like a crazed 600 stock myself, but you do need to be prepared to wring their neck for sure...
If you want easy, accessible, bonkers fun... I can't recommend anything with a KTM 1290 LC8 engine in it highly enough! Rear tyres last about 5 minutes but you'll be grinning too hard to care!

Re: Which One?
You have a GSXR for road, and an off road bike, you want something to pop to the shops and bimble around on?
Has to be a scooter? 300cc or so, must be loads out there. You apparently have the perfect climate for one. Don't knock it til you try it

Re: Which One?
You can't expect a 65-70bhp single to give the hit of the GSXR, they are no faster than an SV650/MT07 in terms of outright performance. The 690s need the right roads, I used to ride mine on B-roads as much as possible. It was the reason I brought the twisty road Sat Nav. Sweeping A roads were too fast in the main and dual carrageways were just means to an end. On Sat I raced an Audi RS3, on the Duke on that same dual carrageway I wouldn't bother trying to race a Golf GTI cos above about 80 he'd disappear. I think it's a mindset/right roads thing with the 690s and I must admit I didn't think you'd like it. On the GSXS on some roads I can leave the bike in 3rd and it'll provide plenty of thrills with nothing more than a roll on but that's 140 odd bhp talking, on the same road on the Duke I'd be 2nd-5th and up and down constantly to keep it on the boil in some ways they ride like a 2 stroke.
The fact that the 950 with 100 odd BHP didn't do it for you makes me think that you've been spoilt with decades of 150+ bhp and the easy mentalness that brings. The only thing that'll feel that exciting in terms of rush is another big bike. The 690s excel on tight twisty roads where their (comparatively) lightweight flickable nature and lack of power mean you can pin it everywhere. I've already noticed I've started switching my routes as the GSXS feels like a bus down some of the old roads that were great on the 690, it's just to heavy/powerful to feel fun. So horses for courses type thing I reckon.

When it's "working" it's fantastic.
Just a bit iffy trundling along roads.

Re: Which One?
And this is your issue. You want a bike that's exciting as well as docile for going to the shops.Yorick wrote: ↑Wed May 03, 2023 9:58 amWhen it's "working" it's fantastic.

You want a light perfectly fuelled, comfortable, flickable, fun, reliable and cruisy Supermoto.
You can't have both.

I've started using my K12 more and now the GS feels like a snail on a big road, part of me wants a supermoto but I don't think it would give me the boot in the pants that 160bhp gives.
I suspect that nothing short of a 2 stroke SM or some mentally tuned big single with a service interval measured in minutes will excite you the same way as the 1000.
I know a guy who still does road races and he's 75 so you can't blame old age, just get the 700 and ride the wheels off the fucker.
