Muc Off
Went out on the Le Mans today as the roads where mostly dry with a few puddles. When I got home the front of the engine and swinginarm was covered in road spray so I thought I'd give it a quick clean. Sprayed some Muc off on the engine and generally around the bike before washing with car shampo then rinsing off.
Noticed the aluminimum around the top of the engine and the valve covers were looking a bit "furry" has anyone else had this with Muc off? I've got some SDoc 100 but that's for "special occasions" only and Ive just bought 5 ltrs of Muc off.
I've wipped it over with Acf50 which has got rid of it.

Re: Muc Off
I've had a few issues with a few similar products but usually on engines when done before it cooled.
I've seen issues on cycling forums with Muc Off though yes

Re: Muc Off
I used it once but found it way too harsh! It furred up my polished alloy race can on my CCM. It appears to be a caustic as truck wash!

Re: Muc Off
I use this stuff that OCD recommend from the other place. Mixes with water and usually use 1/4 cleaner to water so it goes a fair way, much cheaper that way than SDOC. I'd say SDOC is better, but not enough to justify the extra. I went in halfs with my neighbour and got 5 litres for £35 from Amazon. That's not far off what you'd pay for 2 litres of SDOC and that's before you water it down.

Re: Muc Off
I've had the same issue with that stuff. It's very alkaline so if you leave it for more than a couple of mins on chrome or ally then it tends to discolour.

Re: Muc Off
I don't like Muc Off for some of the reasons already stated.
S-doc for me,though the stuff is a silly price.

Re: Muc Off
No probs here. I only wash road bikes the day before I sell them. And the enduro bikes when the dirt slows them down.

Re: Muc Off
I picked some of this up on a Sunday once when I was in Screwfix, and ever since haven't bothered with Sdoc or gunk etc-have never been a fan of Muc-off.
I use this in a squirty bottle and works a treat- dirt (
) cheap too

Re: Muc Off
How much do you water it down? Even a vague guesstimated ratio would be helpful.1913 wrote: Sat Mar 28, 2020 8:26 pm I used Muc Off and found similar issues.
I then watered it down and now find it works brilliantly. (fnur).
Re: Muc Off
Approximately from experimentation.
90% water, ok but does not move many of the stains.
50% water, much better and does not leave stains.
I use my baby Bosch Jet Washer now and I suspect it a higher proportion but due to the ability to cover it uses a bit less than hand spraying.
