The Dunlops are ok on a warm/sunny day,there are lots of folk saying they are dangerous,etc,but for Summer use they are useable.

On the subject of Dunlops, Abel wont even mention their name he hates them that much :mrgreen:

Any bike he bought that had them on were swapped out straight away because of the turn in feeling he hated. They dont bother me that much and the Fazer has had Dunlop Sportsmart and Roadsmart on the front as last 2 tyres but the bike doesnt get pushed much as i use it for instructing. Fastest it ever gets is on the way too and from work :thumbup:

Had a Contimotion and now a Pirelli Diablo Strada on the rear with the Dunlop fronts so its fair to say i am not that fussy about the black round things although on the Multistrada i pretty much stick to Pirelli Angel GT2 front and back :mrgreen:

Took the bike out for an hour as had a break from work.

What. A. Motor :lol:

I think the best thing about it is whilst clearly very fast it has enough midrange punch that you can fire out of corners have a proper giggle and shut off before going silly fast. I'd say my old R6 needed bigger numbers to feel fast, this feels proper fun as a road bike at sensible speeds, ish.

I hear ya man.
I've been toying with the idea of a ZH2,maybe next year,but I have my doubts if it'd be any more fun than my Zed. Faster certainly,but perhaps tempting me back towards higher numbers,the very reason I sold the ZX10R.

Finding a bike with a nice balance of power and grunt from anywhere is a very cool thing.

That's why I love mine. Smaller engines just don't cut it for me.

Finally got round to fitting the crash bungs

Bit of a pain as at first the bung kept spinning when I was tightening it but realised the locking washer must have been the wrong way (I think) and finally got it sorted. Think I need to bin my torque wrench, the first bung clicked at 40NM, I hope, but the second seemed to go tighter to me without clicking. So undid it and just did it with a normal ratchet tight but not ott. Hopefully it'll be right. It's the torque wrench I used on the snapped KTM bolt. I put that down to it being 8NM but last night it was definitely taking some welly without clicking so I reckon it's shit. Hopefully I've not damaged anything and they shouldn't need touching now.

I also replaced one of the handle bar bolts with a ball mount for my Sat Nav. Which I still need to wire up.

My brother bought me some front axle bobbins for my birthday so will fit those this week, its a hollow spindle so should be straightforward...Hopefully.

On the riding front, had a cracking ride yesterday morning. Went Hertford to Finchingfield early doors via Hatfield Broadoak and Dunmow, back via Thaxted and Dunmow. Really enjoyed it, I'm properly happy with this bike.

1st service is Fri morning. Bike needs a wash but will wait for weather forecast for Fri first

If it's the R&G one,you'll get a spindle threaded both ends and two nyloc nuts. It can be hard to get an equal amount of thread showing each end,because both nuts turn,so if you get the desired position and threadlock one of the nuts,then you can tighten the other side against that and the spindle acts more like a bolt.

Saves a lot of faffing about every time the front wheel needs to come out.

Yes it's the R&G ones. I can't find my threadlock as was looking for it the other day for something, so I was gonna faff about with 2 sockets and tighten them against each other as equally as I can!

Would putting some plumbers PTFE tape on the thread where you want one side to stop give enough resistance to tighten the other end? Threadlock it next time they come off.
Doubt is not a pleasant condition.

I won't go into the puncture thing cos that's all in the Krazy Horse thread but yeah that happened :angry-cussingblack:

Anyway 1st service was Friday morning at St Neots and I made it so that was good, was worried I'd wake up to the tyre being flat and have to cancel. Service went OK but don't know why I ask dealers for idea on cost of services. Was told about £180, price was £276. I knew it'd be a bit extra as I'd ordered a tank pad and 3 bolts. 1 mudguard bolt was missing and I wanted to replace the horrible reflectors on the front wheel with plain bolts. So should have been an extra 30 quid odd but then they fitted them and charged an extra half hour labour. When they told me they fitted them I thought 'oh that's nice' silly me. Could have done it myself in 10 mins. Oh well thats the game I guess and done for now.

I knew a tyre from them would be pricey but asked what a set of PR5 would cost - £420 so that definitely got left till I speak to my tyre bloke.

I've checked the pressure this morning and still on 46 psi so not moved since Fri morning and the plug has done 100 odd miles now. Some of my mates have said if it's held till now it'll last the life of the tyre and the bike mechanic said he's replaced loads of worn tyres with these style plugs in that people have ridden on for ages. But must admit I think it'd play on mind so will look into tyres anyway. I'm away next week so won't be riding for a week or so anyway. For now I've lowered the pressure to normal and will check over next couple of days.

Had a quick look at prices on FWR and PR5 is around 280odd so probably £330-350 fitted I'd guess. The Conti RoadAttack 3 and the Metz Roadtech are similar price. A bit of me wants to try the Conti's but I know I like the R5.

Cheapest option is getting old style sports tyres like the original pilot powers as they come in under 200 quid but as much as they were good at the time the PR5 grip as well and last nearly twice as long as probably not worth it.

Anyway replacing a fence today so won't be any biking today which is a shame as beautiful out there.

I did 1000s of miles on my YZF750 with one of those plugs, never had any problem with it.

And Roadtecs are a lot better feeling than Contis

If it holds the pressure I really wouldn't worry about it. I did find that after considerably more wear (and the constant distortion of acceleration and braking, usually 2-up) they can leak but when that happened the rear tyre really did need replacing. I still put a few extra psi in and used it for a couple of weeks until 'Tyre Guy' could come out and replace it.

Getting the fitter to come to me PR5s are coming in at 355 fitted, given the tyre is only 700 miles old and I've spent over the odds on a service I've decided to get a more permanent plug put in and will run the OE tyre for now.

It's my wallet rather than my life thats getting shorter!! :lol: To be fair I can afford it but can't get my head around chucking out 700 mile old tyres nowadays. On my 625SMC I swapped tyres at 150 miles old but I'm getting sensible/boring :thumbdown:

On track I used to bin tyres about that mileage.
But I was only paying about £100 fitted for D211s ;)

I can imagine, it handles really well imo and the engine is a proper goer. Mines defo going on track at somepoint. Next time we meet take it out
