I can't fault the dealer who sold me the car, so much so that he deserves a plug

I've have to look at the bill later.. I'm not convinced there's that much between dealer and decent Indy place these days, even our local indy is £60+ per hour
No, it's the 1.6dCi (nissan engine)Taipan wrote: Wed Dec 15, 2021 1:37 pm If its a 1.5DCi K9K, I just speed watched a video of one being changed. For an EGR valve it's actually quite accessible. WOnder what Nissan charge for a EGR valve? imagine they must lump in a few other things, sundries, diagnostic scan etc to get it up to that!
I suppose if its a cleaner burn then it should be better, but its still a dirty, sooty burn and will eventually cause problems regardless. They [EGR valves] should be a serviceable item imo.Dodgy knees wrote: Wed Dec 15, 2021 6:38 pm I noticed today at the pumps, there's diesel and there's super diesel. They are, for £800Taipan wrote: Thu Dec 16, 2021 11:21 amI suppose if its a cleaner burn then it should be better, but its still a dirty, sooty burn and will eventually cause problems regardless. The lads on the Jaguar forum swear by a fuel additive called Oxicat. It's a post combustion cleaner.Dodgy knees wrote: Wed Dec 15, 2021 6:38 pm I noticed today at the pumps, there's diesel and there's super diesel. I wonder if super would help with these emission filter things.![]()
I read their blurb and couldn't understand why they had a special version for hybrids, petrol/diesel I could understand but why is the engine in a hybrid different?Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: Thu Dec 16, 2021 3:32 pm Snake oil, use a diesel on longer trips and keep it revving, it'll be fine
I think most later diesels auto regen where they pump in excess fuel so the DPF gets red hot and burns off the clogging crap.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: Thu Dec 16, 2021 3:32 pm Snake oil, use a diesel on longer trips and keep it revving, it'll be fine
They do - you can feel it sometimes as a sort of sluggishness in the engine. You can also smell it.Taipan wrote: Fri Dec 17, 2021 9:57 am I think most later diesels auto regen where they pump in excess fuel so the DPF gets red hot and burns off the clogging crap.
I heard a story where a guy in a Mini parked his car on some scrubland to go to a market. The DPF was so hot it set fire to the grass underneath and burnt out his car!![]()

The first part is of course the question i cannot answer... we always like to go into purchases thinking "yeah this'll be great" and it doesn't always turn out to be the case.Potter wrote: Mon May 23, 2022 6:47 am Would those two cars be more reliable? I don't know, I'm just asking.
I think in your circumstances I might be tempted to lease something or get something new on one of those fancy PCP deals which is as good as leasing because you just give it back and get a new one at a certain point - i.e. once the warranty ends.
Buying a used motor outright is probably always going to give maintenance issues because everything is engineered right on the edge of cost versus performance these days.
I wouldn't go as far as to say my QQ is horrible... but it's not a hugely nice place to be. The seat comfort is about the only thing in it's favour. Noise of engine/driving isn't particularly nice.Count Steer wrote: Mon May 23, 2022 8:27 am OTOH there are huge numbers of Cashcows out there with happy owners (usually to be seen midweek, parked up at National Trust properties).
