It got its nickname of "The Big Smoke" because through the 19th and in the early half of the 20th century, Londoners used coal for heating their homes, which produced large amounts of smoke. You'd be forgiven for thinking i already knew that, seeing as how I asked immediately after you posted an old photo of a really smokey power station in London :D

Having attempted underwater photography with one back in the early 80's, I can confirm they are only for operation on land. :thumbdown:

He also worked on the cameras in the Lockheed U2, and possibly the SR-71.
