Re: What have you done today thread?
I've been riding a bike!! LOL I went to see some friends for lunch. And also because he was the person that helped me get the bike turning over, so made it worth keeping (for someone) to get it running. His wife has put a ban on him having a road bike, but he does still hanker after something to play on the mountain roads. So I felt a little bit bad!
So - 60 miles today!!! I was chuffed with the 35 from Friday!! But, almost double is proper cool!!
No shoulder pain at all. So relieved. Last few times I rode (two ish years ago) the shoulder was proper painful. Something in my elbow isn’t happy and some muscles in my arm ache, but that is probably just that I need to get muscles bike fit
Seriously happy (but somewhat knackered) Noggin!
Bit weird to be this tired after just 60 miles (even though I understand why). But, it was from my resort down and up to almost another resort and return. If I don’t get pain on that route, it is just muscle fitness for something they have forgotten how to do
I have found that downhill (down-mountain?) hairpins are the worst, especially the right turn ones. I need to work very hard to develop some abs to hold myself up without needing to lean on the bars!!

Out MTBing with Boy Blunder, loads of people out in the forest riding and walking. Ideal autumnal conditions. Home and cooked Mrs M a roast dinner.

Re: What have you done today thread?
I’m doubtful whether an airbag can prevent all collarbone injuries, but they appear to have reduced considerably in MotoGP since airbags became mandatory.
The Dainese D-Air Road system varies by product: different jackets have different airbag coverage. But two of them – the Carve Master 2 D-Air and Racing 3 D-Air jackets – should reduce collarbone injury because their airbag prevents a helmet from striking the collarbone. Price is the only snag, but eBay can be your friend (e.g., second-hand or ex-demo stock) if you’re patient and keep an eye out.
Only Alpinestars Tech-Air range gives airbag protection for the shoulders.
More generally, RST’s range of airbag-equipped jackets is more affordable than Dainese and Astars. For example, the RST Axiom jacket has an integrated InMotion airbag, and SportsBikeShop currently sells this jacket for £210. While there’s also a £10/month charge to use the InMotion system, the overall price is still great for a jacket equipped with the latest-generation electronic airbag.

Re: What have you done today thread?
Thing is...I've 'known' how to fall for years, but I've not had enough experience to just do it instinctively. If I was prewarned I think I'd do better!
I am still not sure how I crashed, I was literally riding in a straight line (on slightly broken tarmac) with no-one coming the other way. Didn't swerve, didn't turn, didn't do anything. One minute I'm happily buzzing along and half a second later I'm flying through the air.
I think the front wheel got in a crack in the tarmac and just stopped abruptly. The scooters have solid little wheels which wedge quite easily.

Re: What have you done today thread?
Today was the day to open the 'wardrobe of shame'. Since the pandemic kicked off, it has been the repository of 'things that don't quite fit properly anymore'.
Having started today at the weigh-in* at 2st less than the pandemic crunch (when I decided that less was more) it was time to change from summer wardrobe to winter wardrobe. The clothes have been breeding in there! 4 pairs Viyella cord trousers (brown, black, gold and.....burgundy ), 1 pair Hoggs of Fife moleskin trousers, 2 pairs Rohan insulated jeans, 1 pair Rohan thermal 'bags', 1 pair Seeland trousers (waterproof lining)......erm...'some' winter shirts.
Woohoooooooo! It all fits! I never need to buy any more clothes - ever!
* I yam now a snake-hipped, Adonis-like 73.8kg and have a 'wardobe of shame' suitable for an 86kg+ person (or Oxfam). Another 4kg to go and I may just have a bacon butty.

Going up the highlands not this but next weekend for three nights and trees like that i am banking on. Wife has never been or seen the difference a few month can make on the landscape up there so i think she will enjoy it also. Saying that as you will know where you are a few hours can make a difference when its snowing. I would hate to be up there by Glencoe and they shut the snow gates south.

Re: What have you done today thread?
I generally see the colours in the valley and sometimes up here but I'm high enough that it's mainly conifer types - which is why I noticed these particular trees. Of course, I wasn't here last autumn, so it is quite possible they were newly planted the year before last - or something!Felix wrote: ↑Mon Oct 11, 2021 7:30 pm

But it's quite special to get to a place where you can look across to see all the different colours of the trees - and on the way into Bourg on the main road there is a line of trees that go full on dark Red. Gorgeous!
For the snow, we are lucky - the roads are cleared fast and often!! And of course, I love winter here - might be different if I was just visiting!

Re: What have you done today thread?
Went for an MRI on my shoulders. All the same noises as the machines in UK apart from the big chugga chugga chugga noise.
Was bloody glad when it finished. But she said I had to go back in to scan the other shoulder. I sort of assumed it would both at same time.
Anyway I slept through the second one

One of my Abba stand doofers has gone missing. I've searched everywhere in the garage and it's done a 'pingfukkit'. Unbelievable,I mean it's not that small.

Finally, after failing it previously, passed an international CIO exam. Will mean absolutely nothing to everyone but me, however it’s important

Re: What have you done today thread?
Our club did a big ride out to The Iron Bull Roadhouse, Basingstoke on Sunday, 50 bikes. It was a major stress for the main organiser as he phoned the planned petrol stations before leaving home and none of them had petrol so he had to re-route. That meant none of us, but him, had the route - cornerman system with tailgunner rules! No one got lost and we all got home. One of our ride leaders decided to crash in front of me on the way out on a very gravelly bend. From my perspective it went cloud of dust, a few break lights, squiggled myself, oh look a green bike under a van bumper, shaken rider already standing up. Rider ok, bike ok - crash bungs did their job, exchange of details and out of there in 10 minutes. The van driver coming in the other direction, whose bumper the bike slid under said "It's a good job that I wasn't eating the Greggs sausage roll I'd just bought and was concentrating". It was all rather civil and I told him that it was the best crash I'd been too. We were at the back and thought we may manage to catch everyone up before they even missed us, but word got out - like it does.

I got my Mum a Bosch WAU28T64GB Serie 6 washing machine delivered on Thursday with "EcoSilence Drive: Delivering an efficient cleaning performance, by using the EcoSilence Drive for a powerful and quiet wash cycle, with a 10 year guarantee." From the first wash it was making an awful noise - sounded like the main drum bearing (if that's what they have) and shook all over place on spin so that was picked up yesterday and I need to find another. I'm gutted that Bosch have let me down
I missed the email deadline for parking spaces at work last week so I'm WFH or taking the bike in this week grrrrr - not ideal as I need to start carting washing back to mine to do for my Mum - not easy on a bike. I have scheduled a bunch of automatic-email requests now to the Parking Police at work so I won't miss the deadline again.

Re: What have you done today thread?
Back when it was a pub, I saw someone crash just opposite there.
Heading West, a C90 in front veered left and cartwheeled across the wide grass verge.
Rider sat still with the bike, cradling his arm. Broken. Unlike the thee bottles of Guinness in the top box, which survived merely shaken.

This may sound like a very silly question, but were the transport bolts removed when the machine was installed?Trinity765 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 12, 2021 6:06 am

There would probably have been three of them that would have been needed to be unscrewed from the rear of the machine.

Re: What have you done today thread?
If you go there again, and have any members interested in such things, just across the road (but probably a 20 minute walk) is St Swithuns church, one of the smallest churches in the country.
http://www.northhampshirechurches.org.u ... 16214.aspx
The church is one of the smallest in England, and is a gem of which any village would be proud, consisting of a nave 30 feet long and an apse 16 feet in diameter. Erected towards the end of the 12th century, the church is built of flint rubble with angle quoins and door and window dressings of Binstead stone. It is probably the most perfect example of a single cell Norman aisleless apsidal church existing in the country.
