Re: Thread sealer or PTFE tape?

If this is a fairly standard drain plug it is not designed to seal via the threads. If it were it would have a tapered thread and there would be some justification for using PTFE tape. It is the annular flat on case and plug flange where it must be sealed. If the surfaces were completely flat and ...

Re: Music player for the car

I have just got a Kia Niro and a couple of days ago I spent 15 minutes trying to understand how the USB player worked. It is unnecessarily over complicated because after it has digested the couple of thousand tracks it can select by artist/album/folder and this affects the random play options and ...

Re: WiFi / Fibre speeds ??

Once you can use fibre to premises internet speed limitations ( at least in the UK) are just a means of having a charging scale rather than a technical limitation. When it reaches your own home network external fibre speeds can broadly match ethernet speeds for wired networks. Wireless speeds are of ...

Re: Bromsgrove MP calls for rethink on vehicle tax for motorcycles

The "fairness" of taxation is as questionable as the fairness of insurance costs. I have three modern vehicles and two historic ones but the fact is that I can only ride or drive one at any given time. Paying five insurance premiums is as bad as paying three times for road tax. It is often proposed ...

Re: Making clutches lighter

I have tried a mechanical one similar to Crust's posted above. I agree that they help somewhat when precisely set up. But on an older bike everything else needs to be in best order. Its a simple trade off between more leverage and less movement so considering the bite point, the finding neutral when ...

Re: Mororcycle Bays in Supermarkets.

In my area parking is usually free for two wheelers but they can get finicky about only using marked bays. One enforcement service tried to fine me for not parking in a proper bay but I appealed against it and won given that the location was actually not specifically marked at all and it turned out ...

Re: Old new rider question - 125 or DAS

I am of such an age that I only had to pass a round-the-block type of test to get a full license for bikes at 16 and cars at 17. These were no trouble because I had been driving tractors cars vans and bikes on a farm from the age of about 11!

Now very much older slower and stiffer I ride much less ...

10,000 rpm and variable inlet cam timing! From the photo it looks like double valve springs possibly different materials ( titanium?). Cross-over technology from racing still seems to have a place for bikes.

I bought a mid-price Duratool D03122 a few years ago and it is still good. I have blown the odd internal fuse when measuring current but it still accurate enough for most purposes. I tend to make a mental note of any inaccuracy when measuring voltage but unless very small values are involved its ...

This is a difficult issue which I am all too familiar with and the idea of a simple solution doesn't really hold up. Landline yes. A copper one but only carrying the Fibre to Cabinet final stage. I then use an IP phone and generally don't share my mobile number.

If/when Openreach offer full fibre to my address I will probably switch but my IP phone service is not linked to any base ISP. Incidentally my primary ...
