3d printing

I've got an ender 3 gathering dust somewhere. I made a few bits with it but got annoyed that it was a pain and essentially just became another hobby, one that I didn't want, in order to make parts.

I've recently bought a bambu p2s with an ams 2 pro feeder/drier... it's a completely different experience. I was ready to call bullshit on the "it's an appliance, not a hobby now" line but it's absolutely true. I've just been making stuff. You download the model or make it in fusion and print it and it works. It's a level up in terms of expense but these bambu printers are really, really good.

Incidentally, this ease of printing stuff is why I've put this in diy rather than IT.

That's exactly what I found when I splashed out on the Creality K2 plus after giving up on the CR10S Pro. The new one is much faster and generally works first time producing much better quality parts. The remaining limitation seems to be the material properties of PLA and alternatives. When I can keep more safe ventilation going I'll try more exotic materials.

I also use the free version of Autodesk Fusion and like it a lot. Its particularly good at making parametric changes to produce design variations.

Had my Bambu Labs A1 for about a year now, it's how 3d printing should be, effortless.

The hours I spent on my first gen ender 3 levelling the bed I dont want to think about.
I am glad I got it though as I learned a lot about printing and setting them up.
I also upgraded it quite a bit, all in all I probly have about £700 in it now and its still
a bucket of crap compared to the A1.

During Covid I made a over 400 face masks on that machine and gave them out to local health workers.
And it's a nice thought that one of those might have prevented someone catching it.

Printed off a load of pie cuts so I can figure out where the exhaust on the 2cv project exhaust goes. Much simpler than trying to mess about with cutting steel pies just to see if they fit.
