Re: Cordless impact guns

I have to say that I was convinced of the benefits of the 1/4 hex ones after I used a mates one to drive 6mm roofing screws. straight through the steel sheet and into the joists. M6 and M8 hex head wood screws are pretty straightforward as well, sure as hell a lot faster than a ratchet, and none of ...

Re: Tool purchases

I picked up one of these, inc a full set of collets over the summer, for the princely sum of £200. They normally go for £500 plus so I was pretty pleased. It's a quick release collet chuck for high accuracy/repeatability work. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50601647953_80afcc3fbf_z.jpg [/url] c...

Re: Winter projects, purchases, upgrades ?

So I've picked up another T140 this is an E model denoting emissions compliance for the American market required by the late 70s, so it has electronic ignition, Mk2 Amal carbs and parallel (as opposed to splayed) inlet ports. It's a 1981 model and need a few bits doing top it- firstly the carbs nee...

Re: Making a DIY wood burner

I've got spiral wound ventilation ducting on two of mine, seems to be holding up pretty well. I sealed the joints with fire cement and ally tape. I used ducting express out of Leicester, but there's likely somewhere closer to you. I used 6 inch, with a couple of T pieces so it can be cleaned, it dra...

Re: Sealmate Sealbuddy

I used to cut a strip of 35mm film to clean out the seals on enduro bikes. ^^ this, especially the bit which is the leader, the emulsion tends to collect crap, but the main effect seems to be straightening out the fine edge on a seal. Newer seal designs seam more robust, so might be less of an effe...

I'm out of practice, but just opened a flikr account, I'll get sorted soon enough :)

Original thread here for anyone wanting the history https://www.therevcounter.co.uk/threads/99079-New-GoP-project Progress has been in fits and starts, not a huge amount on the main frame for a number of reasons, but I have made some progress on the valve covers, castings have improved a lot, and I'...

Re: would you buy a bike without an MOT

I've never bought a bike with an MOT, but then I'm moderately capable of fixing whatever might be wrong with one, and they have always been cheap. Bear in mind that MOT doesn't equal good to go for very long. You can get an MOT with a shagged battery, in desperate need of a service, minimal life lef...

Re: Evening all, long time no see.

Eyup, Pete, good to see you. Get over to the shed section and fill us in on whats been occuring in the gop. We've been missing our fix of mechanical mastery. Did you finish the bike? been a bit slow in the GoP to be honest, but it's had some progress. Rolling chassis is close to being done, I'm in ...

that's what the plugs on the top of the battery are for, but use a funnel, and don't put too many in at once or it will overheat.

Re: Bothering at a Perrin jig borer

I suspect you have a coordinate drilling machine there, a later version of the colour pics on this page http://www.lathes.co.uk/perrin-av-1/ especially as it doesn't have a hollow spindle for a drawbar. Uisng a milling cutter is likely to end up with the collet holder coming out of the taper due tot...

Evening all, long time no see.

Good to see so many old names, I hope everybody is in good shape and not been subject to the plague. It's been a while, but starting to get a bit of biking mojo back. Time to get to the shed and spannering pages I guess :D
