Re: First post-test/big-bike ?

hmmm….bit difficult that one, as for (too many) years there was 3 of us sharing the same license. when i did final decide that legal was best, i went with a jawa 350 and sidecar to do my test on. after that i had unlimited legal use of a GSX1100 which was kinda fun. the first decent capacity bike i ...

Re: Selling a bike

There's a million tv programs with 'experts' 'doing deals' with explanations of "this is what it's worth to me mate, you're talking retail" banter. Now everyone wants to do it, cos it looks easy. I don't think they get that most private vendors couldn't give a toss about what the buyer co...

Re: Selling a bike

had the same kinda thing when i was selling a load of spares after shutting the shop. i priced the parts more than fairly, and included "no offers" clearly in the ads, but still got a bunch of people asking "will you take half of what you ask?" the missus couldn´t understand why ...

Re: Scrambler hipster bollox

I'm envious of you having a project, because at the moment I don't, but I've never seen a Jap bike turned into one of these hipster bikes that didn't end up worse than a standard bike, so I'll watch this with interest. Starting point is pretty low with an ER5, depends how you measure worse when it’...

Re: 114 Fat Bob FXFBS

here´s another company i´ve used and recommended to my clients, which is rarely heard of, but make a really good quality product at a good price… http://www.khromewerks.com/ well worth a look. i used to do a `wakeup´ kit for sportsters consisting of a replacement K&N filter, dynojet kit, and a s...

Re: 114 Fat Bob FXFBS

vance and hines are another company that makes aftermarket cruiser pipes that work. i have a V&H pro-pipe on the lardmobile and it works just as i wanted with the configuration i have. the V&H bigshots and shortshots are pretty good pipes. the bigshots (can´t remember if the shortshots do) h...

Re: 114 Fat Bob FXFBS

Looking good! 👍

Good choice on the S&S pipes. Their products are made by people who ride obsessively and make sure they work. I used to recommend S&S stuff to my clients. A bit more expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Are those indicators kellerman?

Re: After corona ?

Off up to Asturias. I’ve got a flat up there, so away with the family up into the mountains.

The beach I use up there is not very crowded on a busy day, so getting some vitamin D production going is deffo on the agenda.

Re: Can you wheelie?

I was great at stoppies as a kid. We lived near a school and the road through it had a tight corner, about 20 mph if you were good. My party trick was to scrape my pegs there, while kids were queueing for the yoof club. Word spread and other folk tried and failed. I got brave and did the pegs on al...

Re: Can you wheelie?

i´ve always been shit at wheelies. the first one i did was unintentional on a mates X7, and freaked the hell out of me! i had no understanding of power bands and apart from mopeds had only ridden 4-stroke bikes, so it was somewhat of an experience. i did manage to do some decent ones on a DT400 i wa...

Re: Getting a bike to Spain, one way

Once here, your insurance will only cover you for a limited time, so check first exactly how long. If the bike is going to be permanently here, you will have to register it here with a Spanish plate. This involves going to the local traffic office (every major town has one) and filling in paperwork...

Re: Getting a bike to Spain, one way

Go for it, it will be a cracking ride, maybe bring up a few good memories too. Grab a brew by the lake, then set off. Personally (because I'm lazy) I'd arrange for a shop to collect it, do a full service and MOT and then give it to me all ready to go. You'll probably be tired at the end of it, but ...

Re: What bike are you thinking of buying next ? What's the shortlist ?

I agree that a 210 rear tyre is much better than a 240. As well as the 210 handling better, how many choices of tyre are there for a 240? there´s quite a few manufacturers make 240´s. dunlop, metzeler, etc. when clients came in for a 240, i´d normally recommend a 250 or 260 on the standard rim. the...

Re: What bike are you thinking of buying next ? What's the shortlist ?

I´d probably look at grabbing the XV1900 raider… I think the Yamaha XV1900 looks terrific in the metal, and I'm not normally a fan of cruisers! Are they expensive? Better handling than a Harley, I imagine :?: They put a lot of thought into having the appearance they wanted and actually getting it t...

Re: What bike are you thinking of buying next ? What's the shortlist ?

well, i have no intention of getting rid of the lardmobile, but if for some reason it ever went terminal, i´d probably look at grabbing the XV1900 raider… raider.jpg or if the funds wouldn´t allow, i´d grab a BT1100 bulldog... Yamaha-BT-1100-Bulldog-1.jpg one of the last jobs i did at the shop was a...
