I had my R in for a service today and the salesman threw me the keys for a GS1300.

Well I loved it, all the positives of my old GS’s and with the adaptive ride height none of the ‘too tall’ at standstill negatives.

I sat down, worked out a price and the last point of contention was would it fit through the gate.

The salesman lives nearby so he brought it home with him and popped round to try it.

Well it wouldn’t fit :thumbdown: . I reckon 75mm too wide.

I had Helibars on my old GS’s but I sold them. So either I find a narrower bar (I think Wunderlich do some) or I forgot about it.

I’ve already had the gate widened so no option there. So I might be getting a new bike or I might not.

I'd convinced myself that the council spec one was over £20k, but the motorrad webshite says it's £16,470, which seems par for the course these days.

The bare bike is that price but of course it’s easy to spec it up. A lot of the attractions of the new bike are unfortunately extra.

I've got a later (2016) 1200LC, in triple black spec, which means it's got all the factory bolt on tat (keyless, spots, nav prep, alarm, etc..)

I think it's all the bike I'd ever need. The 1300 looks great, but it doesn't really do anything my auld one does, except go fasterer?

I only bought a GS because I liked the idea or all the toys, rider modes, ESA, etc...

and because I'm tall I prefer the ergos of ADV bikes rather than the styling.

The GS was the only bike with all the toys and a shaft drive. I was very close to buying a Multi, but the cardan sold the GS. The Super Ten had the shaft, but no toys and the Cross Tourer had a shaft, but even more weight than the GS and no toys.

In my opinion the 1300 is a big step up even from the 1250.

It’s lighter (okay only 12kg) more responsive especially mid range and I loved the way it sits down when stopping.
Another random thing is when you touch the centre stand on the ground it raises the suspension to max to make it easier to put on the stand. Another plus for wimps like me.

So many toys n electronics tho. I didn’t spec adaptive cruise control in a vain attempt to keep the price down.

Anyway that’s immaterial if I can’t figure out how to fit narrower bars.

Too complicated. I'll take an 1150 with auto-suspension adjustment please. :thumbup:

I'd rather the 1100gs, which was my favourite BMW. It all too big and unwieldy after that!
