Squeaky Brakes?

Post by Yorick »

Just put the Accossata master cylinder on (eventually) and have to take off both calipers to bleed properly. Like a prat I forgot to put something between the pads so had to use big screwdriver.
Pads are so soft they took some big gouges. Brand new pads :(

Test ride took about 20 miles before the the braking power came back.
But also along with an audible squeak.

Was only when going below 40. But maybe couldn't hear it faster.

Came home and pads seemed OK apart from gouges.
So put previous set in which where almost identical. The squeak went away.

Just curious what might have caused it .
Any ideas?

Are the new pads identical, or might the design be different, different anti squeal shims or none fitted, etc?
The old fashioned remedy was to put a dab of high temp grease on the backs of the pads. Tried that yet?

Both SBS race pads. No shims or whatever.

To stop pads squeaking we used to cut a slot in them. ( it changes the harmonics).
You appear to have done that backwards.

Whilst it’s a bit late now and never the best idea using screwdriver , it happens , but as soon as you have a little gap try to get the screwdriver all the way through so your using he shoulder across the whole pads not just the end .
Tie or cable tie the brake lever back overnight- helps to get any last bits of air out if there is any - as it will push the air back up to the top of master cylinder , won’t help your squeal one way or the other mind 👍

Gave the original pads a right good going over on rough emery paper and put them back in.
No more noise 😀
