Right so I am insulting my shed, roof is done, and started the walls (yes it’s taken me this long) it one of those bit here and a bit there. Walls should be done quicker than the roof. It’s just free time.


Anyways question is, when I go and get some these sheets of wood for the walls how do I cut rectangles out of them for the light switches, plugs and windows???

Some one suggested a multitool

Drill hole at each corner. Buy a cheap jigsaw.

As Yoz said - drill holes then use a jigsaw.

Bit more details - draw the outline of the hole you want, drill holes that are greater in diameter than the width of the jigsaw blade WITHIN that outline, then use the jigsaw to remove the rest of the material inside the outline. the only cuts that need to be "neat" are the ones that run along the outline, any other cuts where you're removing small bits of wood can be rough as you like.

Or, you can pull the sockets and switches off and mount them on the new interior boards if they're surface mounted types.

You can't do that with the windows, obvs.

I know it's not, but that looks like exactly the kind of wind up tool you'd send an apprentice to go and get for his drill, after they've picked up a can of tartan paint and a long weight.

Don't forget a spirit level bubble.

If you've got to do a few square holes make a jig so they are all the same.

I've usually done like Yorick suggested and drilled holes at corners and cut it out with a jigsaw.
I now have a multitool but its fucking slow for that type of usage compared to a jigsaw.

That doesn't stop the fucking sparks from deafening every bugger on site by cutting every socket box out with a multitol though, feckless gimps.
Jeez, even a padsaw does the job.

When you need one, they're the only tool for the job. But using a tool that sounds like a thousand angry wasps when there's a better way should be a stabbing offence.

But fun, nevertheless.

The high speed vibrating blade tools have saved me plenty of time and effort. But they are costly if you happen to hit a nail or some other hard obstruction because the blades are not very tough and are expensive.

Ok cool, a few different routs to go. I already have a jigsaw and drill.

I like the box cutter, but most of what I need to cut will be rectangular.

What will give me the cleanest finish??
