We have a beautiful pergola attached the Man Cave.
In the rare downpour on Friday, lots of rain came through
The garage part has 4" of concrete, so doesn't leak.

My enduro pals are all tradesmen and they've told me what to do to stop leaks. The wood was very expensive so want to keep it looking good.

First job was to jet wash the roof properly.
Luckily was a cloudy day, as would fry up there on a white roof. Wind was blowing so I was soaking wet, but was warm and so was drying me as well

Will need to let it dry for a couple of days as the water will have been forced through into the holes.

I was expecting the roof to have dries so I could sweep up the remaining dirt.
But a heavy overnight dew has put a knocker on that.
Hosed most of it down the drain and hope the sun comes out to dry it quickly.

So what's the plan then?

A fairly flat roof with (what appears to be) a million teatowel sized tiles glued to it is always likely to fail at some point. Not enough fall, too many points of ingress.

There's about a 5 degree fall. The felt has a few cuts and nicks and a lot of the seams have damage.

My pal's advice....

Poke and prod the expensive Sikafkex rubber paint into all the damage bits and all the seams with a paintbrush.
Let it dry.
Apply the Sikafkex with a roller over the damaged areas and seams.
Then strips of Velo. It's like tissue paper.
Then soak with more Sikafkex.

Let it all dry.
Another coat of Sikafkex over treated areas.

Not sure yet, whether to paint the whole roof with the Sikafkex or just normal outside paint.

The felt strips are about a meter wide and run the width of the roof.

Seems reasonable.

What's the advice with overpainting with house paint then? I'd be concerned maybe that given the harsh sunlight it would peel like a geordie's back within a few seasons, and also make any future repairs with the Sikaflex more tricky.

It would be the same paint that the house is covered in.

House paint 20 litres 40€
Posh paint 10 litres 90€

I'll take my pal's advice

Greetings from Bradford YK. I'm pretty sure we walked past your gaff - on the path behind. We'd walked up the 'volcano' in the background and were on our way back to our accommodation via a watering hole in Costa Teguise - it's thirsty work is walking looks a nice pad

Hi, unfortunately, I wasn't aware there you lived there then... We're in Eccleshill. We went to Dickens on the way back as we were staying at Santa Rosa, but have also been for beers after a walk, at Los Amigos. We also hired leccy MTB's at Planet Bikes to do a ride over to Famara via Teguise and then went for a beer afterwards at Muellito I'm led to believe it was unseasonally warm when we were there (31°+) but it was a lovely change from cold & wet back home !

I lived close by there. The Yorkshire Ripper was just round the corner on Altar Drive and I went to St Bedes school just close by

Fark. We've got the driest climate known to man and we've got a light drizzle today

Ho hum.

Gonna give roof a day to dry out.

The lip on the outside wall wasn't high enough so in big rains, it overflowed onto outside wall. Making it filthy, but more importantly, damp came into garage.
I put on 25mm batons, but still went over.
So been advised to use these 20mm x 25mm plastic angles as well.
