Silly question(s)...HELP!
Our (old) HP tower plays up...but it was cheap (free) and I cant afford to replace it.
The wireless mouse shat the bed a few days ago...simples...Argos, £8.99, new mouse. That one lasted 18 hours. Got it replaced...still not working.
So I took the tower and opened it up, vaccumed it, checked all the connections (yes, I earthed myself first) and it works again.
However, the screen display looks as if its been sat on..there is a small but definite reduction in the vertical height and a corresponding stretch in the horizontal. Reducing or enlarging zoom doesn't help. Any ideas?
We are using windows 7....yes I know it is past it's sell by.
In passing , we have an Acer Aspire, reputedly running 10 that we could possibly nick the software from, but it won't boot. It beeps 4 times, which is CMOS from googling, I have taken out the battery, left it 24 hours, and replaced with new to no avail.
My aim with that is purely to get the O/S, if I add the hard drive from that to mine, can I change everything to 10 without buggering everything?
The HP has all the memory it can cope with, and a solid state drive.
Thanks in anticipation.

Re: Silly question(s)...HELP!
Your beeps are more likely due to faulty or badly seated ram.
Take it out, put it back in again.
Try a different ram module if you have one.
If it has more than one, try running with only one and then the other. Etc..

You can swap the hard drive from one PC to another, it will probably boot in safe mode and you'll need to do 300 reboots to get rid of all the hardware errors

Re: Silly question(s)...HELP!
Well...KFB's solution fixed the aspect ratio....I had seen that but thought it was just sizing. As to the Acer...I agree, 4 beeps would be ram, but acer says its cmos, and I have played with the memory.
KFB's last post suggests that I will be living with 7 for a while....

Windows 10 will work fine unlicensed, it just shows you an annoying message on the desktop.
If you're prepared to tolerate the message you might as well just download the installer to make a bootable installation usb and have a fresh copy on there.
