I’ve done a few and tbh it’s usually full of sensible folk who are courteous and don’t take the piss, plenty room given both ways.

The powers that be don’t usually take too kindly to idiots and remove them if need be.

Done a few, prob rightly so they have more rules than a bike one regarding overtaking. Some ask you to wait for the car in front to move or acknowledge they are letting you by or for you to pass on the straights. Certainly no diving up the inside on the brakes. All sounds good but when you’re in an MX5 and there’s arrogant dicks in supercars that nail it down the straights and won’t let you past despite catching them over a lap it gets very frustrating. If you’re even half quick you’ll need proper brakes and they aren’t cheap. Also going sideways out of corners isn’t liked either.
TBH they just seem like a place for rich folk to play at racing and talk the talk. Wouldn’t bother

I’ve done several and I’ve had far less problems with other drivers than riders on bike track days. Only been cut up once in about ten track days. Motor sport events are a good outfit to go with.

I used to and never had any problems or complaints. Most of the people seem to be regular & are largely sensible.

Oulton's lovely in a car too, I doubt you'd regret it.

I used to go to these events all the time back when i had the scooby and before that the my old rover 220GSI.

There can be some fools on the track as there is in every walk of life, just be careful.

I mostly found it was those in the cheaper stripped out cars that would rule the tracks. Most of the rich boys in their ferrari's etc we're either too shit at driving or to scared to hurt their cars that they tended to be the ones getting lapped by the others in their mk2 fiesta's, in fact, for a few regulars i knew at castle coombe it was a thing to see how much you could make the rich boys shit their pants as you passed them 2 inches away from their front wing, used to give us more entertainment than actually being the front car after 10 laps...

I think my mate (a lady) lapped 2 ferrari's and 3 porches twice one day in her Fiesta with an escourt rs turbo engine in it, it was fucking hilarious.

That’s what I’m concerned about, some chav dickhead willing to risk writing off tens of thousands of pounds worth of someone else’s motor just so they can go home feeling like they’re winning at something.

Hopefully the black flag gets used the first time any clown decides to scare someone else on the track just for a laugh.

I never used to do it myself, but rich boys we're the scurve of the track as they would hold everyone else up so some would get very annoyed with them and try and get them to actually get out of 2nd gear!

If you just want to go and show off your motor, go and drive it around the streets of Chester or Surrey wearing a flat cap and playing taylor swift on full volume, you would get loads of respect!

I was feeling tempted until I read that. If my whole car was written off it wouldn't even be ten grand but I just don't want to be out on a track with people like that.

One of the best bits about being an instructor was being able to drag muppets off track.
I gave them one warning.
No second chance. They usually calmed down. But if I had to tell the boss, he sent them home.

They are going to be there no matter what.

Your loaded, just take out track insurance so if there are any issues you can just claim for it.

In all my time on the tracks (probably attending up to 10 meets a year over 5 years) i only ever saw 1 proper crash which was the noris designs Evo spanking it into a wall at around 80mph! That thing was worth circa £80k and i'm not sure how he managed to forget to brake on that corner as it was a notorious corner at castle coombe and he had been around the track probably hundreds of times, total write off.

The ones to look out for mainly was the expensive cars as they are normally driven by some old rich guy who only manages to get the car out of 2nd gear 2 times a year! I had so many near misses due to them 1) not knowing the rules of the track (undertaking on right etc) and 2) them going so slow they cause a build up of cars and everything gets a little 'tight' around the bends!

Go buy yourself something old and fast and then you wont have to worry about the 'chav's' as you put it overtaking you in your posh shiny car...

TBH - if i had something special i'd stay well clear of a track, unless it's a private track day and you know the other people that shall be out on the track with you.

Just logged into another group and there is a bloke who took his Caterham to a trackday at the weekend and got rammed by a mini.
He didn't say anything about the driving standards.

rammed ? as in the bloke in the mini deliberately drove into him ?

Or there was an accident/mistake and one car hit another car ?

Car trackdays are a lot more benign than bike trackdays. No overtaking on the brakes, or on corners.. and have to be on one side only. They are much more laid back. I've never had problems.

That said, I've heard of certain tracks attracting more of that 'type' than others. i.e. cheap days at Lydden Hill. The track sessions attached to car shows are well known for being sketchy.
