That Wartburg sounds great, guessing it's a triple?
I can actually remember friends of my parents having one back in the dark ages but I was only a little kid at the time

Did a meeting at Schleiz before they shortened the circuit, years ago. All sorts of racing classics there, including some Wartburgs. Never seen a papier-mache car with 3 huge expansion chambers under the bonnet before

Re: Let's hear (it for) 2 strokes!
I raced a Wartburg in Autocross in 1984ish, they're a 900cc 2 stroke triple, water cooled with no water pump, the water circulates by heat and syphon effect, the gearbox has a sort of slipper clutch so you get no engine braking.
It went in the under 1000cc class against Minis (mostly), it was a lot quicker than a 1 litre Mini in a straight line, sadly not round corners though, so the plan was hatched to put the Wartburg engine into a Mini, but sadly it wouldn't fit as it was too long, would've fitted into an early Renault 5 though, so that was what we were going to do, but whilst enthusiastically removing the engine and gearbox from the Wartburg it caught fire in a big way and there was nothing left worth reclaiming of the poor Wartburg Black Knight.
Apart from that my 2 stroke experience is all two wheeled, RD400s, LC 250s and 350s, a tuned 350 YPVS that did 135mph, an X7 that melted pistons, a GT185 that also melted pistons, a TS50 and some motorcross bikes, including a 1980 YZ125 with the narrowest power band known to man but it was fecking quick.

I hope that thing has got better brakes and a stiffer frame than the originals
The local Kwak dealer has got a bunch of 70s 2Ts in their showroom window. They're not for sale, but I go in occasionally and dribble over them.

Re: Let's hear (it for) 2 strokes!
In my twenties I had a KR1-S, it was very quick. I pulled off the north end of the M23 once to find a police Jag screeching to a halt behind me with two very grumpy looking coppers in it. As the KR tinked, cooling down (I'd backed off for the last few miles to stop it getting too hot), one copper said to the other "That's just a 250 isn't it?"
"Yes"
"Fuck!"
"We've been doing over 140 since Gatwick trying to catch you!"
I have a bit more self restraint these days.

"Of all the stories you told me, which ones were true and which ones weren't?"
"My dear Doctor, they're all true."
"Even the lies?"
"Especially the lies."

I think it was Tatra that made a production V8 two stroke car
