Dunlop pull slicks from tt
A Dunlop statement said: “We are racers at heart and safety is very much our first consideration.
“With our long history of success at the Isle of Man TT, we know what it takes to win and set lap records at one of the most challenging races in the world. Following tyre conditions experienced by three Superbike riders on Dunlop KR108 slick rear race tyres at the North West 200, and understanding the importance of giving riders the confidence they need to perform on such a demanding high-speed road circuit, we have taken the decision to withdraw the KR108 slick rear tyre range from the 2022 Isle of Man TT Races and offer the D213 GP PRO treaded rear tyre range as an alternative option.”

It'll take something special to restore confidence in Dunlop after this.

Re: Dunlop pull slicks from tt
From what I picked up on yesterday Michael Dunlop has switched to the Metzeler slicks whereas Hicky has stuck with Dunlop and went with the treaded tyre on offer.
There were others mentioned but can’t remember who.

They fell apart at the NW200, M Dunlops rear delaminated at 160 mph and similar for Hicky and a few others

They all do this. IIRC Pirelli pushed the design a bit too much with F1 tyres a few years ago. IMO all racing, bike and car, would be better if everyone had to use the same tyres throughout the race. That way durability would become important again.

Was that not Michelin in the F1? IIRC they were only allowed one set and because part of the Indy F1 circuit was banked, it tore the left rears up.Cousin Jack wrote: ↑Mon May 30, 2022 9:03 amThey all do this. I'm not sure. I thought that Pirelli (who are the current supplier) have had a long catalogue of failures, some simple punctures but others not so simple. They always try to blame the team (too long a stint) or the track (too abrasive) or he weather (too hot)Bigjawa wrote: ↑Tue May 31, 2022 9:03 pmWas that not Michelin in the F1? I reckon the teams will push the rules more than the tyre manufacturers.Cousin Jack wrote: ↑Tue May 31, 2022 9:10 pmI'm not sure. Re: Dunlop pull slicks from tt
The Michelin F1 thing was in 2005 at the US GP - Michelin couldn't guarantee that tyres would survive the last banked corner for the whole race, so they asked the teams to consider something else. Back then there were two suppliers, so all the Bridgestone shod teams (Ferrari and two back runners IIRC) said "nah you're alright", which led to the most ridiculous race in F1 history. All but six cars pulled in after the parade lap. I remember watching it live on TV quite clearly.
Much more recently Pirelli (now the only supplier in F1, which has control tyres) have had a few races where multiple tyres have gone bang mid race. I remember Silverstone about 6-7 years ago was particularly bad, something like 5 blow outs in one race. That's not the only one though, they've had a few races where tyre life was questionable, leading to quite strict limits of minimum pressures and the like. The teams still try and push it though, more than one has been caught running under pressure IIRC.

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse for Dunlop, Davey Todd’s d213 flew apart in yesterday’s super bike race.
What the fuck is going on?

Have to assume his were ok, he was as fast into Hillberry on lap 6 as lap one. Can’t believe he’d have been pushing that hard with a nearly 40 second lead if they were aware of any issues at that point.
Not sure how many rear tyres they’d changed during the race, and don’t know if anyone was aware of why Davey Todd had stopped at that time.

At the start of Sulby straight apparently - Fcking fast there (I mean, it's all pretty fast, but some bits are extra fast!! LOL)singlesman wrote: ↑Sun Jun 05, 2022 7:07 am Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse for Dunlop, Davey Todd’s d213 flew apart in yesterday’s super bike race.

There's a video on it letting go on Youtube
I still don't really understand how only the odd one goes. Or that Dunlop pulled the slicks saying they were this issue, but now a treaded rear has gone as well? Bloody scary for the riders. The preferred tyre just is not consistent
