Not all Arai's fit the same...

Post by KungFooBob »

..who knew!

Been wearing Arai's for the last 20 odd years, I've always gone for the lower/mid range stuff, Astro's, Chasers, Axcess', TourX, all fit pretty much the same in a medium.

Today I was in J&S Doncaster. They've stopped selling bikes and turned the whole thing over to clothing and massively expanded the helmet range.

They had a RX7V Hag rep (with a production date of 09/21 which is good for J&S) for £549.

I thought 'fuck it, I'm having that'. Only it was way too tight across the forehead :(

The new Quantic is perfect, but they didn't have it in my size in any of the colours I liked.

Arai used to be my go to, until they didn't fit any more.

They all fit me great... except the RX7!

I know it's a bit tighter as it's a 'race' helmet, but I couldn't wear it every day and £550 is a big risk if it doesn't bed in, especially when the others fit fine out the box.

Shame cos I love a Haga rep (I had a Chaser one once), but they only come in the RX7 these days.

Different nationalities have different head shapes,so there definitely are differences. Just one of the reasons I like to try before I buy.

AFAIR they offer 3 different interiors.

Arai Chasers come with a 7mm liner, you can get 5mm and 9mm liners, a large one with a 5mm liner fits me very nicely, the cheaper Arais don't have removable liners, but a large one of theses fits me like a Chaser with a 5mm liner.

I replaced the liner on my Rapide...IIRC it was 7mm and now I've got 5mm.

It didn't/doesn't feel tight when I first put it on, but after maybe an hour I get a headache where its pressing in the centre of my forehead. The 5mm liner helps, but mostly it just extends that problem to about 90 mins instead

TBF I've had loads of different brands and never had a helmet which doesn't do that...well I had one which didn't, but it 'rattled' on my head at high speed so I got rid of it. Must have a weird shaped bonce.

Nah I'm just gonna buy an electric bike which goes flat in 55 mins.

The Bonnie will only make it half an hour without breaking down.

Same for me, never fancied spending RX7 Money but haven't had the problem as they don't fit. Like you I've had Astros and chasers for decades,

Hi
Thinking about buying a new Quantic but concerned that I had the same problem with my last RX7-V as posted above.
My original RX7XX was perfect but ended up selling the V as it was just too tight across my forehead.

Tried a Debut and Profile on in the dealer this week and they were very comfortable but they didn’t have a Quantic in my size.

Anyone confirm the Quantic is more like the Debut than the RX7?
Cheers

The Quantic was a good fit for me, just like the rest of the range. Not tight across the forehead like the RX7V.

I must be weird (yeah i know)

3 current helmets all fit lovely, Arai Astro, Arai TourX4, Shoei Neotec 2 yet supposedly 1 or more shouldnt fit if the others do

Never tried an RX7 as they were always too spendy for my budget

Thanks for all the input.
As a point of reference I have an XSpirit 2 and 3 and both fit nicely although they’re “race” helmets I guess and are fine on my sports bike but I wanted something more touring oriented and was impressed by the Quantic reviews.

I also have a Hornet ADV but don’t want to wear that under normal road riding conditions. This also fits nicely and is comfortable.

I tried an NXR that was fine but just fancied an Arai for a change.
Anyway the upshot is managed to try a Quantic and it didn’t pinch across my forehead like the RX7 so ordered one.

It arrived today and being brand new is snug but I know it’ll give a bit so it’ll be fine.
Cheers

Almost pressed the button on a matt black Quantic today, most of the online sellers have them for £424 which is a load cheaper than all the other colours. It would match my Tour-X4 too.

Chickened out when I remembered all my bikes need tax or mot so I should sort them out first.

Boing. Having said I wanted a change from Arai, as they don't do drop-down visors, and then trying about a dozen non-Arai lids, I've ended up with another Arai - a Quantic. Basically it fitted better than anything else I'd tried, and for me that's more important than having the sunshade, much as I'd have liked one. I've also bought a legal smoked visor to go with it, rather than the one with the external flip-up dark shade, which I didn't get on with very well previously.

As soon as we get a nice dry day I'll test it. (Yes, I know I should test it in the rain, too, but I'd rather that happened 'naturally'.)

I've still not bought a Quantic.

I've looked at HJC's, but I seem to be the exception. I really don't want a lid with an internal flip down dark visor and Arai's seem to be the only option... it's a good job they fit so well.
