New Bike
New Bike
Well after selling my bike due to illness last year I thought it was time to get back on a bike.
I decided it was not worth spending a lot of money on a new bike until I know my illness is
fully under control, so when this BMW F800GT came my way I snapped it up.
Its a 2013 model which has been sat in a garage unused since 2015, 1700 miles its like new.
New battery fitted , fresh fuel and a new MOT today .

Re: New Bike
I had to sell my F800R a couple of years back and missed it. Cracking bike and the F800s are underrated IMO. Enjoy!

Re: New Bike
I can't remember exactly how the F800s do it - but normally there's a tensioner jockey wheel somewhere.Dodgy knees wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 10:27 am Do the belts have a kind of spring tensioner or is slack built in. ??
(the only other way around that would be to have the swing-arm pivot exactly in line with the output shaft of the gearbox - but I don't think anyone's yet bothered to do that on belt drive bikes - you see it sometimes on some chain driven bikes).

Re: New Bike
Seems you just have to set the belt tension to the required amount on the centre stand, the belt will tightenDodgy knees wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 10:27 am Do the belts have a kind of spring tensioner or is slack built in. ??
slightly as the suspension moves so its important to use the correct tensioner tool.
There are no roller type auto tensioners.

I'd have expected you to design and build a bike from the ground up,rather than buying one.kendo57 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 07, 2022 10:26 pm Well after selling my bike due to illness last year I thought it was time to get back on a bike.

Looks in great order, essentially a new bike without the pain of depreciation.
Your health to enjoy,sir.

Re: New Bike
Good advice! The ABS on the F800GS that I had was more of a random danger factor than a safety aid I imagine they've improved it since then.
Nice work though, a virtually brand new bike that someone has kindly run in for you.
Enjoy!

Re: New Bike
Speaking of building bikes from scratch who was it that was building a frame a couple of years ago?Skub wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 2:28 pmI'd have expected you to design and build a bike from the ground up,rather than buying one.kendo57 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 07, 2022 10:26 pm Well after selling my bike due to illness last year I thought it was time to get back on a bike.

Did it ever get finished?
