MotoGP Qatar round 1 2022... Game time in the darkness
So what's the predictions for race 1 then lads and lasses.
I'm taking Jorge MArtin on the Ducati for the win.

Ducati power will win at that track I reckon. So Peco.

Was just reading that at the last test the Yamaha is still 9kph slower down the straight than the Duc/Honda. That's a real handicap.

Bagnaia will be up there I reckon. The Dukes like Qatar,so there should be plenty of red at the front.
Spoilers may be Fabio and Marky boi. Franko will be needing to prove a point this year too.
It's hard to predict Suzuki, both Mir and Rins are capable.

Pretty much everything I was going to say has been covered. The summary is that if Ducati can get around the twisties a bit better then it's likely to be Pecco or Martin, if Yamaha can stay close enough on the straight then it's Fab.
Honda have always hated Losail and it's only MM's brilliance that's kept them at the pointy end - but we haven't got much of an idea of whether the bike or him are back to their best.
As Skub said, Suzuki are so hard to predict. Both could win it or bin it.

I wonder if the change in race time will make a difference as it’s been moved forward so will be at dusk rather than at night with Moto3 and Moto2 racing in daylight.
I assume it was to remove the risk of the dreaded “dew point” and sudden grip changes if there are any delays during the schedule

I hadn't realised it was this weekend. REALLY looking forward to this season.
Nobody's mention Jack on Ducati? I know he got covid recently but he is racing isn't he? Jorge the new favourite on the grid though sois my other Ducati bet.
what about the new boys? anyone going to cause a surprise?

Barring accidents and acts of Dog I'd expect to see Bagnaia, Quartararo and Martin on the podium, and probably in that order.

TV. Nothing to do with dew point. They moved it all forward an hour or two the first couple of years we were there and the teams - who'd campaigned for it because they hated packing up at midnight and flying out late - hated it even more because the practice temperatures and race temperatures were so different that there was no relevance at all in the settings. They then realised that the Moto3 bikes were racing as the sun dipped down so vision was shite as well. They've dragged it forward a little more because that means much more "traditional" TV times.Bigyin wrote: ↑Tue Mar 01, 2022 1:50 pm I wonder if the change in race time will make a difference as it’s been moved forward so will be at dusk rather than at night with Moto3 and Moto2 racing in daylight.

You also need to remember that whilst a lot of the Tech Team were expats or fly-ins, most of the track stewarding was done by locals who had a day job and Sunday for them was work day so there was a LOT of pressure between LSSC and Dorna as to what time the track could be ready to race - and the later races meant that it was much easier for the track to be fully staffed. Sounds mad but that's how it was.

Qatar MotoGP: Pol: Everyone happy at Honda, no-one says old bike is better
https://www.crash.net/motogp/news/99706 ... ike-better
Pol Espargaro prepares for his second season as a Repsol Honda rider in a totally different situation than one year ago; 'It's turned around completely. Now I can apply my riding style, which I missed so much last year'.
It's been almost four years since anyone other than Marc Marquez won a MotoGP race for Honda, while the last time three different RCV riders took a victory (a feat achieved by Ducati last season) was back in 2016.
Could that all change courtesy of Honda's 2022 machine, which makes its race debut in Qatar this weekend?
The pre-season signs are promising, with the factory's four riders - Marc Marquez and Pol Espargaro at Repsol, plus Alex Marquez and Takaaki Nakagami at LCR - setting a fast pace on the '22 bike, headlined by Espargaro's test topping performance at Mandalika.
Revelling in the return of rear grip, Espargaro and team-mate Marc Marquez looked just as competitive for average pace, while Nakagami and Alex Marquez delivered race simulations that were, on paper, marginally better than even Yamaha's world champion Fabio Quartararo.
