So I've got this Guzzi 1200 sport which came with fancy high level but loud exhausts like this

they are straight through with no baffles and set the neighbours van alarm off, so for now I've returned it to standard any ideas how to make the fancy ones quieter?

Put a pillow behind the headboard?

You can buy rudimentary baffles (a bolt in tube with holes) which take the edge off. Any more than that will be the same but with a bit of wadding and then you'll no doubt have to fiddle with jetting.

Bear in mind I fiddle with rat bikes and yours looks nice, so you might want to take it to someone who know what they're doing, but the principal is the same.

Stand further away! Riding may be difficult though, I grant you.

In all seriousness though, can you open them up? I can't tell from the pics, but presumably they're riveted together. Making them quieter is gonna involve putting something inside so first you gotta get inside....

DB killers up the wazoo?

What size pipes are they, I might have some baffles knocking about, though I found they messed the throttle response up when I've tried them in the past.

If the pipes are linked you could put a baffle in one pipe.

IME the baffles you can see through don't help quite things down much, They need to blanked off at the end of the tube to make any sort of difference.

Fabricator has suggested making up oval to round adaptors and getting a couple of dB killers but outlets are 45mm x 65mm oval and sticking a couple of 45mm dia dB killers are gonna cut off a fair amount, I guess I could just drill & bolt some dB killers in there & leave the gaps open but..
1. Will that achieve anything
2. Which dB killers to choose

Are about as much use as a chocolate teapot. Have a chat with Mark Holland @ http://www.mhpexhaust.co.uk/ and or https://www.pipewerx.co.uk/ as they are both regarded as the silencer specialists. Mark will make you some pipe work that will work with the engine @ the DB limit you want and probably make the extra silencer removable for when next doors away. Both will do them in a choice of finishes - carbon / Chrome / Stainless etc.

Yeah, I've read a few reviews & don't fancy going down that path, unless I was nearby.

@ditchfinder - I've got a beetle map on it with std pipes on it at the moment & have previously had a my16 ecu from cliff in oz on my Centauro. So far Baldrick seems the most knowledgeable on these particular pipes but I just want them a bit quieter, will take them to a local exhaust fab guy I know & see what he can suggest. Ta

Do any owners put their original exhausts up for sale, when they “upgrade” to virile manly noisy ones?

I changed the endcans on my SC for a more aesthetic looking set, I installed the baffles that cost me about £30 from Keihin exhausts and am happy with the more muted tones, still not as quiet as the standard cans but it’s never caused me any issues, the open termi’s that were the standard upgrade for this bike were the loudest things I’ve ever heard on the road- louder than a desmosedici with its race system fitted.
I still have the standard endcans on my Monster, they are still the best looking cans I’ve come across, I did replace the cat with a bypass pipe and that give a pleasing sound without being really loud, completely legal too. In any case the only noise I can hear on that bike is the roar of the open airbox.
There’s different patterns of baffle, the ones shown already in this thread and the ones that have little ‘cutouts from the pipe bent inwards to soften the sound, I’m not sure if there’s any significant difference between them as far as noise is concerned

I have a CB300R. I fitted a Quill stainless exhaust on it. NOS from before they went bust in 2015!

I didn't realise it wasn't the T3 road-legal type that I'd had in the past but a race can with a basic token effort baffle. It reduces the outlet from 60.x mm to "a bit less than that" but that's all. It's just a tube and open at both ends. The 60.x mm is a weird size, and it has an angled outlet so I can't get a better baffle neither.

My solution was to get the removable catalyst used on various KTMs up to 450cc, and stick it between the silencer and link pipe. It turns out by a fluke that those fit really nicely inside my link pipe. This has really knocked the edge off the noise, plus it took away that "vintage" unburnt fuel smell you get without a cat. Plus Captain Planet no longer has to personally kick my arse.

You can also get similar looking things from eBay which don't have the Catalyst function, but will still knock off a decent amount of noise.

edit: mine was part number 79105091000, looks like he has only one right now. Part number 77005091000 probably comes off a two stroke, IDK if it would be suitable for your bike. Looks a weird fitment.
