Random money making technology.... Do you ?

Post by weeksy »

Chatting to a mate and he does random stuff from monitoring the pollution to things like this weather station.

https://weatherxm.com/shop/weather-miner-wifi-bundle/

they're basically data gathering for countless little reasons and if you hook up to 1 box you get a certain income, hook up to more, well you get more.

There's miners for gathering car information regarding wear and tear..

It all sounds crazy, he's doing stuff like sticking up a 4m pole on his roof to increase coverage....

However, he's getting a chunk of change in the bank for it.... So doesn't seem quite as daft as you'd think.

I'd say all in he's about £1300 and making £250-350 a month for not a lot of outlay. A chunk of the outlay was ages ago and has more than paid for itself.

That sounds pretty good, pay for a track day a month after 5 months.

with this new one, i think he'll be up to £600 a month soon. The only downside is having a massive tower hanging off the side of his house.

There are plenty of options (with renumeration from entry into prize draws, through vouchers, to cash money) for taking part in surveys, customer panels and research.

Not usually a big earner, but just needs spare time.

I'm well boring.

300pcm would mean you're over the 1k a year threshold for a "tax free side gig", which then means I'd be paying 40% tax on it (assuming its taxed is income) which makes it much less attractive.

I could just not declare it...but, well, I'm not gonna do that.

Some of the options that I listed are not taxable.

Also expenses to be offset.

I quite like the idea of fairly interesting, relatively self sufficient and lazy ways of making money like this as a means of weaning me off regular work and into full time shed tinkering.

It could well involve a different type of regular shed-based tinking!
