Automatic porridge cooker?

Post by Kneerly Down »

For guests we do a big spread of continental breakfast items and fruit. The only hot food we do is porridge.
SWMBO is working now and has less time in the mornings to get things sorted.
We currently make the porridge and then transfer it to a slow cooker to keep warm if guests are later than they indicated but I was wondering if any of the fancy automatic cookers could be set up the night before to cook the porridge on a timer for the morning?

In the winter I do often set the pressure cooker to come on in the morning so that it would be ready when I got out of the shower.

I did sometimes have to add a bit of milk as occasionally it was a smidge thick, but I was ok with that - also, I probably wasn't very exact with measurements of porridge and liquid, so that could have been why!!

Slow cooker and a timer? What have I missed here? Not hot enough?

Other than the fact the slow cooker might be in use elsewhere?

Never sure it'd cook well in the slow cooker without being stirred.
Will give it a try.
Maybe the simple solution is the best!

I think it was me that missed the obvious.
Luckily we have 4 slow cookers!

Porridge makes me gag. I like oats and everything else made with oats, but there's something about porridge  I like it with lots and lots or cream and sugar, but then it's not really porridge anymore. As you were - enjoy :P

I thought about that....the other option is just a really long extension lead. It won't reel it in if you position the cable right, but it will put a twist in the cable with every revolution. But if you have a long enough one and it starts out 'straight' you should be fine

Wouldn't the porridge turn into glue if you left it cooking for ages?
