Superman has Weaknesses.

Post by Yorick »

For so long he pushed the limits and came away unscathed. But his shoulder injury showed him to be human and now this. The sport needs him back at his best. But will ever get back to where he was?

Probably not - things move on, some one else will come along.

As far as the development of the Honda is concerned, maybe it's not a bad thing to shape the new bike to be user friendly for 'ordinary' GP riders and not someone like MM who will force the bike to win when others plainly can't do that.

I hope he can beat the frailties of the body and come back strong. Nothing but best wishes from me.

But surely if you make it better for the other 3 riders you're giving yourself more of an overall chance ? plus arguably it would be easier for MM to stay on it then too ?

Rossi and Doohan both fought Honda for a bike to suit them.

It beggars the question of whether they should be fannying about on crossers and the likes………

I’m all for “you can do what you like” in your own time and no job should dictate otherwise but I’m putting it out there for others to whinge about.

I had an issue with a boss many years ago because I kept blootering myself on track, pretty much made it out that I was being selfish etc and the funny thing is it didn’t really affect my job, he was just a bit of a wanker.

Fannying about on crossers is how they develop and hone skills though isn't it?

How else would you practice your skills as a motogp rider? Track days would hardly be safer.

Yep,that's what I meant,maybe badly presented!

In past years Honda have had a championship winner in MM,so there was little real incentive to change the bike much. Marc could win on anything. That's what I meant by saying maybe it's not a bad thing for MM not to be a test rider, then the bike may improve overall for more riders.

Yamaha are now in a similar position as the big H,if Quartararo goes on the missing list due to injury or whatever, where is the next Yamaha rider? Struggling not to be last.

After years of being in that particular boat,Ducati now seem to have the bike which allows a lot of other riders to be competitive.

But they're clearly building it for 'someone' or do we think that MM is the only one who can ride their bike well, but they don't actually build it for/around him, he's just the one who can ride it. Hence being that they're not actually building it for anyone as such but just what they percieve to be right ? But they must surely listen to someone out there ?

There's a corporate arrogance exampled well by big manufacturers like Honda. They have complete belief in their product and if it's not winning races, then the rider needs to change,or they need to change rider.

Honda have a history of building bikes around one rider going back to Freddie Spencer, to be fair to Honda they've won a lot of World Championships using this approach.

I remember a quote from a top HRC honcho at the factory many years ago Julian Ryder referred to in an interview when there were whinges from riders about the Honda not being the best bike and it needing improvements. HRC boss replied in his limited English when asked what improvements were needed "Rider must go necessary faster", smiled and walked off.

Yeah, that and the famous HRC boss quote,"riders are like light bulbs, when one breaks you screw in a replacement".

To be fair Honda have got a point, they pay the rider to race the bike, if you're paying for the bike yourself you would have reason to whine about it if it failed to deliver.

NOt sure that's quite how things work. However they still should really listen to the people they're paying millions of pounds a year to ride the bike.

Especially so as it's supposed to be teamwork. A rider can't even say,"I was this,or I was that,it's all"we were slow today and we need to improve".

I've said it before and I'll say it again - Marquez is the hardest working rider in the pit, by a substantial margin. He was always there with his mechanics, collecting tools and food, making coffees, hoovering the pit box (yes, really - the sand gets everywhere in Qatar) - 11pm at night when we left the track he was there and he was in there when we got in early in the morning. The difference between his side of the pit box and Pedrosa's was stark.

If you're Honda and, in particular, the team do you put your effort behind the incredibly talented rider that is committed and engaged to that level and gets results or do you put it behind the other alien who doesn't quite so much..........(yes, I know Pedrosa has done a good job at KTM - although they're not showing it at the moment!).
