Snetterton today ....car day

Thought it best to post here as i dont know if others have tried the 4 wheel variety

My son and a few of his mates booked Snetterton today. Open pit lane and they had a couple of garages to house the following 2 X heavily modified M3 BMW's on slicks. Mini Cooper S, Vauxhall VXR Astra with some tuning and my boys tuned Fiesta ST. The TD company puts on free tuition with some pro drivers.



The morning gets off well and there is a vast selection of cars from little Peugeot 106 road car all the way up to a couple of McLarens with everything in between.





We also had this next to us driven by an Italian bloke in his 60's



The day continues with my lad getting a session with a pro driver who comes in and apart from a change in braking markers and change in hand position on the wheel says he is doing tip top. I go back out with the boy and he is pushing the car to its limit and now 5 seconds a lap quicker than the start of the day. I am impressed and proud dad as quite a few people along the pit lane come up to him to compliment him on his driving and how fast his little Fiesta goes and handles

Next session and while under braking he hears a pop noise and white smoke pisses out of the bonnet so pulls off the track and back to the garage to find coolant pissing our the car. Bit of fishing about and we find pinhole in the hose from the turbo. Quick bit of cut and bodge and back together again as i have a bottle of coolant in my car and off he goes again.



Unfortunately for our neighbour next door his lovely Cosworth looks like this now



If that didnt look bad enough his mate in the tuned M3 on slicks was chasing and catching one of the McLarens who pushed a bit too hard and lost it on the exit of the corner onto the start finish ......... it didnt end well and effectively ended the day due to the time it took to recover and also the damage to the barriers



I might even get the hairdressers TT out next time and get humiliated by the yoof in their track weapons

Spoke to Gino who was the Cosworth driver and he was philosophical about it but thought he had hit grass to avoid a car he was overtaking that moved but his mates were in front with a rear facing Go Pro so once they look it might answer a question.

I have been sent Go Pro footage from my sons mates car of the McLaren going off right in front of him and it was all his own work from what I could see

I was always happiest on car track days with something slower than everyone else or faster as you then spent less time with other people on track. Feel a lot safer on bike track days.

Did a few car track days but the rules are too restrictive, msv we’re always overtake on straights or wait till car in front puts indicator on, not so easy in the cars I used as they were slow in a straight line and twats in super cars were too arrogant to slow on the straights despite the shit car catching them through the corners.
Only option was to overtake on brakes which usually got a black flag. I only used rear wheel drive cars too and more than once got black flagged for oversteer.
You’d get the occasional fun lap but ultimately it was frustrating

Bit different in a car when you are much faster in the bends with stricter overtaking rules and a car in front with more power so no matter how well you exit you cant get by when they are slower in corners. More room on bike days for the ability to make a difference. Also on car days its open pit lane so no restriction on numbers in each session so can get busy as you have novice/inters and fast all out at once .

Exactly this, I enjoyed the car on track but found it very frustrating, you could be 30-60s a lap faster as it’s open pit lane and as I only used cars with less than 140hp there was no chance of even getting close on the straights with 300+Hp cars even if they were only tickling the throttle. MSV do black flag for overtaking on the brakes but seemed to ignore the fast cars not backing off on the straights. Very frustrating tbh
