Silverstone 2022, who's coming playing on trackdays ?
https://www.silverstone.co.uk/track-day ... track-days
Just waiting for the dates to come out, but they're usually out by Black Friday which is in a couple of weeks or so.
It's @Welsh Muffin favourite track these days and in the UK it's mine too i'd say. There's also a very interesting chat i had with the guys who hire out the bikes and have Yamahas from new R1s to Nikens and even R7s coming in for next year. These can be hired for a full day or even a taster session to see if you like it.
I reckon we'll be booking 4 days... well she will... i'll likely book 1...

I've only ever done the full GP circuit once, that was a a very very long time ago and I didn't like it but it is the closest circuit to me geographically, so I might bend over think of England and give it one more try this year if there's a halfway reasonable deal on offer

I'd be properly curious to see/hear how you get on with it these days. I'd have thought it would be right up your street with fast sweeping 100mph corners. I get it's a bit flat for some people, but some of the corners are just epic and it's beautifully surfaced as you'd expect. Well, at our speedTricky wrote: ↑Wed Nov 03, 2021 8:39 am I've only ever done the full GP circuit once, that was a a very very long time ago and I didn't like it but it is the closest circuit to me geographically, so I might bend over think of England and give it one more try this year if there's a halfway reasonable deal on offer
Pricing depends how you look at it... but if you factor in you don't have to hotel and spend £40 in fuel and £100 in food, it's a LOT less expensive than say Donny... But arguably it does lessen some of the experience by not staying over.
There is a premier inn 2 miles from the track and if it swung things i'm sure we could be persuaded to stay overnight and do the hotel/food/beers thing as lets face it, it does make the trackday !

Re: Silverstone 2022, who's coming playing on trackdays ?
I've never done a track day there (only been there once and that was in 1986), been past it lots of times, the trouble is, from here it's an utter arse to get to.
Though I've no idea what I'm doing next year track wise, I don't currently have a track bike that's running, but I'm tempted to come along and say hello when you're there, as whilst it's a crap drive from here to Silverstone, if I pick the right route, it's a nice motorcycle ride.

That's the Premier Inn... it's about 400m from the Silverstone turn off and 1.5m to the gate.

I'm not risking throwing £6.5K of bike down the track, but more importantly it's got no fairing which makes anything over 100 mph seriously uncomfortable, the plan is that the FZ finally gets it's 911 race engine and the road going crap taken off, but track bike next year could equally be a 350 YPVS or Z1170Dodgy knees wrote: ↑Wed Nov 03, 2021 10:07 amLe_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Wed Nov 03, 2021 8:54 am I've never done a track day there (only been there once and that was in 1986), been past it lots of times, the trouble is, from here it's an utter arse to get to.

I think thats the one i stayed at while marshalling for Bemsee at Silverstone a couple of times. Happy memories of a very pretty a and e doctor who worked on the rescue vehicles.weeksy wrote: ↑Wed Nov 03, 2021 10:09 am https://www.premierinn.com/gb/en/hotels ... LBC_SILGRE

I've driven past that, and the Green Man Pub, millions of times (watch out for the Speed Camera!). Every time I think "Who the boody 'ell is driving out here to stay somewhere you can only get to on the A43?"weeksy wrote: ↑Wed Nov 03, 2021 10:09 am https://www.premierinn.com/gb/en/hotels ... Never done Silverstone, could be good. Is it expensive compared to other tracks?

Was just making food.
On Black Friday it'll be about £225. Depends how you think of the circuit as to whether that's value for money or not.
For me, it's the best facilities, the fastest and sweepiest track and the closest one to my house.

Possibly, depends on Mrs M’s car choice after the naughty XTrail misbehaved AGAIN!

Re: Silverstone 2022, who's coming playing on trackdays ?
So in the spirit of the forum and one major thing i like to try and promote one of our members @tricol has been gifted a place at Silverstone for a trackday next year.
Dates are still not finalised, but would be ace if we can get him on a day when several of us are playing.
Due to various reasons, i'm unlikely to be riding on it myself but i'll be there as spanner crew for the ZX6R and @Welsh Muffin anyway.
Why him, well, he's an active member who is new to riding and has never experienced a trackday before. As you know each year we try and give someone an experience of a lifetime type thing, which usually involves Pembrey for the extravaganza but i thought i'd spice things up a little this year and IMO Silverstone is one of the 'must ride' sort of places. So the offer was made and i believe accepted.

Well what can I say, very humbled to be offered this opportunity, can't say enough thank yous.
I've had a quiet first year on the bike so hopefully next year will be a bit more interesting now
The few hundred virtual laps around the GP circuit should at least help me know where I'm going!

It's quite a tough track to learn, so yeah in some ways doing laps on your chosen game will deffo give you a clue where you're going, as will youtube.tricol wrote: ↑Wed Nov 17, 2021 10:18 am Well what can I say, very humbled to be offered this opportunity, can't say enough thank yous.

The other thing with Silverstone is that they are VERY strict in novice when it comes to things like overtaking. So you won't be dive-bombed mid-corner, unless i'm out in it but they're also great with instruction too. If you're worried about your bike we can also chat to a mate who runs the hire bikes there and can get you a deal on a bike if you were so inclined. Me personally, i'd use my own (as i always have) but you may feel using a hire bike is a better option. They'll have R7s, R6s, R1s and even a Niken LOL.
