Re: Fence pricing
No idea. Stuff I've had done used wood posts.
However, perhaps consider having, instead of panels, overlapping boards? (Top is ready made trellis)

What do you think is a fair quote?
It would be 4 posts, 3 gravel boards, 2.5 panels - plus the labour. It's the lenth of 2.5 of those sections you see there.
What do you reckon is a fair quote?

Re: Fence pricing
Guesstimate says about £300 for the panels, posts etc and a couple of days work - so about £600

Re: Fence pricing
It used to be 10% for hooky currency and around 25% for nicked stuff, adjusted per item.

Re: Fence pricing
I think you'll find I've paid a deposit on a pink GSX-R1100. I won't own it for another three weeks

Buying you a pink gixxer may not actually be an indication of a caring person.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Fri May 07, 2021 3:35 pmJust in time for my birthday - I didn't know you cared enough to buy me a bike.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Fri May 07, 2021 3:31 pm I think you'll find I've paid a deposit on a pink GSX-R1100. Re: Fence pricing
Just a little...
UK timber prices have pretty much followed the above trend, demand is high due to people working from home and wanting to spend spare cash on improving their homes, supply is thwarted due to, well, you all know the answer to that...

Re: Fence pricing
A mate does garden revamp stuff, he said that even getting stock is difficult.
Foe example, client on one job wanted extra done, so he contacted suppliers to order a load more wooden 'sleepers'.
"We have a 1000 being delivered next week. We'll put you on the waiting list, in case any orders are cancelled."

Re: Fence pricing
I was paying £0.97 per metre for 150x22 sarking 2 years ago.
Local supplier is now £1.27 but I see the likes of Wickes are charging £3 or more.
I've never seen our local hills so busy with timber lorries...they are certainly making use of the long days at the moment.
I had about 120 lengths of 4.8m sarking and a whole load of 6x2 and 4x2 beginning of last week but my nephew raided me (he will pay but we haven't agreed how much yet) taking about half of it. I hadn't realised what was happening with the pricing and supply until he told me why he'd raided my stock.
Hoping the prices fall and supply issues ease in the next couple of months.

Re: Fence pricing
£600 - £750
Anything over £750 is taking the piss unless access is difficult.
(I used to do fencing up until about a year ago)
*Edited to include for removing and disposing of the old one

Re: Fence pricing
The chap doing my folks' fence has stopped taking fencing work on (he does landscaping and garden services); I asked him if it was the increased cost and delay and he said it was the abuse he got from quoting for work (I gather he uses more premium product which hikes the price from suppliers before it gets to him). Tells everyone he is fully booked for fencing and avoids the hassle.

Re: Fence pricing
Couple of years back I paid £700 for this.
The same company just fitted some bigger gates to a mates place and he gave me the smaller ones that were there. I thought i'd get them to fit them as I need 2 custom panels made up, but they said they weren't taking any booking as they were booked up for 10 weeks ahead and were doing 7 day weeks to try and meet demand!

Re: Fence pricing
By which time they'll probably have made enough money to retire. I have my doubts about some folks learning capacity.
The elderly lady living alone beside me was charged over a grand for a 3ft tall fence over a length of 20ft. They did a really shit job, which I had to spend time and money fixing for her. The boyos said they'd come out,but never did. Onto the next victim.
Whenever she needs work done I always try to be there,so they don't see her as an easy touch. One guy charged her £2500 to put a coat of paint on her (already immaculate) house. Less than 2 days work. I gave her the number of a bloke I knew who'd do a better job for less than £400,but guess what? She called out Mr.£2500 to do it again. Some folk can't be helped.
