Right choice?

Post by Tweet »

Hi one and all.......you lot getting ready for the 29th MarchπŸ˜€
I am Tweet, a very old nickname I picked up in my early youth, many years ago.
I am currently riding a Tiger 885 ( Steamer) which suits my needs and gangly frame, I had a more modern bike before, but the modern tec (it popped it's ECU and other electrical gremlinsπŸ˜•) was beyond my knowledge, I like to use spanners on a bike, not a laptop or OBD reader.πŸ€”
I am located near Nottingham, and retired, so yes a old git, which leaves me plenty of time to polish and maintain the bike, but it needs very little of that at the moment, with the Covid situation I have not had chance (like most of you guys) to wear out tyres, chains and disc pads, hope to make up for that next month! Oh yes!πŸ‘
Going to have a mooch around the forum now......then a Horlicks and a early night, not!!πŸ˜‚

Gotta love a Steamer.

I once make the mistake of asking on a Tiger forum why they were called Steamers :)

I was searching for a previous forum, which did not come up on search, no sign of it, and this one came up on the search, so, in for a penny and all that.πŸ‘

I was, maybe I still am on thereπŸ€” but I don't venture there any longer, asked a few questions about the Tiger, one being, why is it called a Steamer?, and a couple of members replied as if they where talking to the village idiot, which with me may not be far off the point concerning meπŸ˜‚

As for the electronics on bikes my MOT tester is an old school Harley owner right down to the leather cut off, chain to the wallet etc etc,,,, My Ducati is keyless and he hasnt a clue how to start it and calls it "That fucking Italian laptop" :lol:

My apologies, yep not a very interesting reason to be tagged Steamer........and mine does leak a little from the bottom hose, new hose, new clips, still leaks, lives up to its name.

Hi.....Thanks for the welcome.πŸ‘.......I can't say I consider my 1997 Triumph Tiger to be modernπŸ€”......in the electrics or mechanicals.

It was a test to see if you were an old forum member with a new username. ;) *
Perceptions of old/modern are subjective. I consider my newest bike, a1985 Guzzi V50, to be modern. I've only just mentally moved my '70s Hondas from 'modern' to 'old'. Long time sufferers of my posts are likely to know where I'm coming from even though they won't understand why. Most people here are more normal than I am so be assured, registering here was a good choice for you.

* No it wasn't really.

I consider all the new fangled (ECU, TPS Lambda sensors, EFI, ABS) electronics to be modern, suppose we all have different ideas on that,
I like the simplicity of older bikes.πŸ‘
