I was going to watch it, but ironically I couldn't be arsed.

Depends what you mean by "much" I suppose. All the other rovers have found loads of stuff, but of course not the one big thing they were sent to find.

I'm reasonably sure NASA, SpaceX etc. are run by ten year olds. I suspected it when they originally used the rocket crane, but Elon's cartoon spaceship and giant nets were the final proof.

My only interest is to try and discover how, why and perhaps even when Venus became the ultimate example of CO2 driven global warming.

Mars certainly at one stage was much like Earth, a rocky water world but it went the other way. Not sure what the current consensus is regarding early Venus but I'd put money on it too having once been extremely similar to Earth.

Venus is fecking hard to work on. The surface conditions are higher pressure than the bottom of the sea and hot enough to melt lead.

NASA actually put out a call for ideas/proposals on how you might make an electronics free rover to work there.

Don't forget the sulphuric acid atmosphere. The Russians managed to stick a lander on Venus years ago and yet we really know bugger all about it's geology or history.

Venus, Earth and Mars are all in the "Goldilocks Zone" and yet are vastly different ecologies. There are more hospitable environments on the moons of Jupiter. It could easily be argued Europa is the best candidate for "Earth 2.0" if we really fuck this one up.

If Mars was a bit bigger, it would have likely kept its magnetic shield and atmosphere - its not just the location of the planet, but its size as well which is important. Too small and it can't keep an atmosphere, to big and gravity becomes an issue for life (so we believe anyway).

As for fucking this planet up, we will, period. We are breeding like rats with no sign of easing. Even if we don't, life cycles are finite imho. Another meteor, another pandemic, or another ice-age/super heating will come along, with or without mankind... and if none of this gets us, the Sun will in the end.

One of the first Russian Landers that survived to the surface suffered the indignity of the lens cap melting onto one of the cameras. Most lasted less than an hour before succumbing to the heat and pressure. Typically 90atm and 485C. Hell world and not the Jungle planet of Edgar Rice Burroughs.
