My 1999 Yamaha R1
So I work with Race bikes and I work with Suspension so what do I do with my bikes???
I have 2 bikes, the 3rd went after I crashed doing some MX, lol.
I have a 1997 Yamaha TDM850. The bike is almost, but not quite stock, and has had a bare frame rebuild which included a full engine rebuild following a seized crank shortly after purchasing it.

As for my other bike which I do use on that odd sunny special day, but also on track I have a 1999 YZF R1.

I don't want to be rude, I'm seriously interested.
How does a 20 year old bike with lots of work, compare to a brand new R1?
About 10 years ago I rode a race prepped 2002 GSXR1000 and it wasn't a patch on my standard 2011 GSXR1000 with Ohlins shock and properly set up forks.

No, the TDM is smiles for miles. Only managed to get 75mm miles on it since the full engine rebuild so far (everything from seals/sheels/rod bearings/pistons and rings/valve lash etc). As stated not 100% stock, but has had suspension upgrades/front brake upgrades and I can throw it around as hard as the R1 and she doesnt loose her footing.
It had the head overhauled which was within specs so just decked to ensure nice and flat prior to the rebuild, some new shims as clearances were well out and it has 29K on the clocks. The barrels were foobarred oval and out of round so needed .5mm oversized pistons and rebore to rectify that. The crank had seized shortly after getting it, with the rods bearing welding itself to the journals so someone had run it low on oil I'd say as no passages were blocked up so it had been a hard life until I got her.
It took me 18months to source a genuine brand new radiator, 6 months to source the genuine pistons, I just replaced the inlet trumpets brand new genuine again and the crank needed reworking. It came with a K&N filter and stock jetting and some god awful aftermarket twin exhaust. I was not keen on the twin exit pipes so i did go to a single exit, i only put a cheap Black widow stainless system on the bike but it looks ok.
Still rocking an 18" front wheel, good quality tyres are hard to find, thankfully Continentel sport attacks saved the day there.
I can not find luggage racks for love nor money mind, but it has a top box rack.

My brother has an 850 TDM with full luggage system, topbox and side boxes.... want me to contact him? He wants to get rid of the bike as his knees cannot cope with the weight of he bike.
