Flushed with loads of hot water, now it’s leaking when it’s filled over the plug insert (where my finger is pointing to amd it’s also turning (able to spin)

It’s leaking from the black rubber gasket thing under the sink.

Has the sealant dissolved or what? Does it need a new seal?

Unscrew the right angle bend at both ends, remove it, and you'll find a screw that will enable to tighten the bit you are pointing at down. That should stop the leak.

Wife sez, check the rubber seal is in the right place and tighten the plug hole up.
You could smear a little silicone sealant on the rubber seal as well.

Hold the underneath and use a large slotted screwdriver to turn the centre part with the two slots in it.

Usually anyway.

The large rubber things seems to be in the right place, I think, it was not touched before it started leaking

It looks to me the bit you need to seal is still attached to the sink waiting to be removed. I'm no plumber so treat my advice with contempt.

Taken the rubber gasket off, can’t really see any trace of sealant before

It may just need a clean up and reseating, you probably disturbed it before and broke the seal. The sealant will help if the rubber has aged and doesn't work as well as it should.
I fixed a leaking tap a couple of weeks ago just by descaling the internal bits, you don't always need difficult or expensive remedies.

Right so I have it a cleaned and removed the gunk, put it back together but it’s still leaking form the circled bit, I’ve used a screwdriver to tighten the bolt that hold the plug in, and still the same,

Should I put a bit of silicon around where I have put the yellow line?

That's what I'd try but I'd only give it 50/50 chance of working.

Is there rubber missing from the outer ring or is it supposed to be like that?

Id put just a smear on both sides of the rubber washer, put it back together do the screw up enough to seat it properly then tighten it up fully once the silicon has set. Dont put any on the metal bit that goes on top. (NB Not a plumber)

This looks like it melted and deformed, could that be why it’s not tight and letting it leak??
