Givi Monolock or Monokey. Any better than the other for whatever reason? My topbox just now is Kappa with the Monokey fitting but that is small and needs replaced so dont mind swapping to Monolock if any better

Kappa is just rebranded Givi.

IIRC Kappa is run by the daughter of the Givi boss, all the fittings are interchangeable.

Yeah i know they are the same but if Monolock is better/newer then i may change fittings. There was a full kit of Monokey fitting for just over £200 the other day but the side boxes looking like they were from the American Chips TV series. May have looked OK if i colour coded the lids. To late now as they sold.

IIRC Monolock was for small capacity bikes and Monokey was for all bikes. It's been a while though!

I've gone for SW Motech the last couple of times. It's quality and looks good. Nothing has broken and in 100k miles.

I had the Blaze on the Streets and now have the Urban on the Hornet.

From Goggle AI

"Givi's two primary luggage lines cater to different riding needs. Monolock is lighter, budget-friendly, and designed for scooters or light commuting. Monokey is Givi's heavy-duty, premium line, built to withstand higher speeds and heavier loads for touring motorcycles"

I've got a monolock cos it was cheaper, load values are very low, I think something like 3kg but I've loaded mine with few days worth of stuff and sat at 90mph on the motoway with it ok. I should just AI'd it again!

"The primary difference between Givi Monolock and Monokey cases is their load rating: Monokey cases are heavy-duty and rated for up to 10 kg (22 lbs), whereas Monolock cases are lighter and rated for only 3 kg (6.6 lbs)"

I have a large Monokey set up, and have overloaded it substantially when touring without issue.

On a previous bike I had a medium/large Monolock and did the same, again without issue.

I suspect the load limits are set by lawyers with little grasp of reality but a strong desire to protect their employer.

Givi Monokey it is. Just ordered this rack

https://www.wemoto.com/bike/yamaha/fzs/ ... okey-plate

I can add the side mounts at a later date and until i find a nice new top box i am sire my old Monolock plate will fix onto the rack for the time being.

Cheers all
