How to they work/know MPH from KPH? I cant see it being different clocks apart from the face is that would be expensive. Is it in the drive at the wheel? Reason i ask is, My bike is a Dutch import and previous owner told me the clock was changed to MPH by his previous owner but the ODO still reads KPH. Looking back at MOT history this may be correct as it did 31700km back in 2023 and in 2024 it had done 34960 miles.

Electronic speedometers work about the same as mechanical ones, in that step one is measuring how many times the wheel rotates.
After that it's just multiplication of pulse signals to work out how many wheel rotations equals a mile or a kilometer, or gear multiplications for the same.
Some bikes with electronic speedometers have a button press to convert for different markets or when you're traveling, some don't.
If yours doesn't have that then one fix would be to simply change the face so that as the needle swings to 100km/h, it now just has 60mph on the sticker behind it. This would leave the odometer in km/h.

Some Italian bikes have the speedo in MPH but the odometer in kms, mostly bikes built by Cagiva / MV Agusta

I am pretty sure the speedometer needle is accurate. Go through to many speed cameras and when say at speed limits i dont seem to be any faster or slower than other traffic but its more the ODO counter i am curious about. You can see here what is making me think it could be counting KPH. First two UK MOT's are in KPH.

Easy enough to check, ride it for 3 miles and see if the odometer has gone up by 3 or 5

Apparently you can with the later model what have a full digital dash. Mine is only digital ODO, 2 Trips and a clock. Ill have a play tomorrow and see if the set button changes anything other than the 24 hour lock. Possibly i need to press it longer than 2 seconds.
