Finally the day has come for giving the ebike a go again.
Got a few plans this year where it has the potential to be very very useful indeed.
I've gone for lower power lower weight and Bosch motor. Although I'll probably add in the range extender for big days out.
Its the Mondraker Sly.

Great bike... If, however you haven't physically ordered it yet, give me a shout... May be able to help you out there...

It's OK mate thanks. My mate is a Mondy dealer and has seen me right on it.

I LOVE that blue colour... Looks stunning in the flesh! I so nearly went with the Sly primarily just for that colour I'll be honest... It would look sooooooo good with the Mavic Deemax's I've got with the Yellow hubs!
Any plans for upgrades...?
Depending on new job, I will probably have a 185x55 EXT Storia off my Crafty available soon... It was Jake from Sprung's and he had it on his own Sly for a while...

No upgrades planned apart from some DMR bit but that'll only be to keep sponsors happy..
Neither of us are being boys, he just goes fast on anything, I just go slow on anything

How much does it weigh, what size battery does it have?

19.5kg and 400wh
I've ordered a 250 extender too for bigger days

400wh would do me, mine is 500, but the rides I do generally only use 50% of it, but it doesn't sound like the weight saving of having a smaller battery is that much, I think my hard tail eBike weighs about 21kg and it's built like a tank.

Well even bikes without motors are 15-16kg so there's a finite limit you can reach unless going crazy with budget.

Was about to order a range extender for mine the other week... I've got a couple of events planned I wanted to do on the lighter eBike, but would need bigger battery for... Then realised I've got 3 friends with the range extender, and they rarely ever use them themselves, so I'm sure I would be able to borrow one for a couple of days when needed...
That said, might not be on Bosch for too much longer anyway... See how things go!

The 400Wh Bosch battery is 2kg... Not sure how heavy your 500Wh would be, but suspect it's using older cells... I know the latest 800Wh is 3.9kg but the 750Wh it replaced was 4.4kg, suspect your 500 is probably around 3kg...
The motor weight makes a difference too... SX is around 2kg where the CX is 2.9kg... AS
@weeksy says, it's not much of a penalty for a Bosch SX motor and 400Wh battery on an Enduro bike when it would have been 15-16kg anyway, and yet it's still coming in around 20kg with a potent motor and battery...

I have a question for those in the know, does it use the range extender first ? e.g If i'm lapping, can i go out first with the extender fitted, then once that's done and we're onto main battery, drop the extender back in the van and carry on with the lighter weight ?

No…
Uses the range extender and the battery simultaneously…
Or if the main battery is depleted and then you plug the extender in, it will only run at lower torque/power…
But you can’t deplete the range extender first anyway… Not unless you took the main battery out.

That's a shame really for what could be a simple solution to things. Its not a deal breaker in any way for me. But a shame
Bike is on its way and Ride Wrap kit is ordered. I don't expect to see it for the weekend though

I didn't realise they could be so light.
Looking at the OP, it's a very nice looking machine.

Oh there's lighter ones now, like the Amflow, but at a higher cost of course than this.
Although this is also sale discounted which lowers the cost a bit of course. But i went for this partly on price, partly on weight. I don't want a massive weighty one, the big boy battery/motor are still around the 25kg mark and whilst that gives more capacity it also rides a lot heavier. I expect the Sly to still be pretty playful but have the extra go for it's needs.
For some of the Euro stuff we have we can be a mile from the main paddock area, which will mean frequent trips over to the van/spares, pushing/pulling the boy over to save a bit of fatigue on the DH bike.
They also make a great training/adventure bike for winter riding for both me and him, meaning we'll both get out at times we may otherwise not do when we (eventually) move.
