Anyone using it?

I was looking at Stocks and Share's ISAs and they were recommended on the MSE website for people wanting to build their own with no fees.

They've been advertising on TV a lot recently too.

Using the link on the MSE website to sign up gets you some bonus free shares (randomly anywhere between £8-100 worth).

I've just signed up and started a stocks and shares ISA and added £25 to my account, it's given me £11.90's worth of Nvidia shares, which is nice.

I just have to work out what to buy with my £25 now

BTW, I have no idea what I'm doing (but I don't mind if I lose £25).

The wife is going to sign up too and we'll see who can make the most (or lose the least) over the next couple of months.

No fees? How are they making any money out of it?

But no, not used them (hadn't heard of them tbh, but if MSE says they're OK I'd guess they are).

I use Charles Stanley for some things and Fidelity for others. Used to use egg but that ended up in various bits with Charles Stanley, Yorkshire Building Society, Fidelity and their credit card business went somewhere else as did the call centre in Derby. Completely atomised!

It seems the exchanges charge a buying fee, but the platform itself doesn't have any that I can see.

I bought £5 worth of Alphabet and only got £4.99 worth after the buying fee.

She's buying UK stuff and the markets don't open until Monday, so I've got a proper head start

I've only looked at the Shares ISA option.

It's a bit of a faff to sign up, but once you're on, add some funds (get some free) and pick the companies you want to buy shares in.

It's like a fantasy league, you can buy and sell whenever the markets are open (but it will cost you a few pence, depending on how many you have), it's quite interactive.

If you want a managed plan where someone else makes the decisions, then this isn't for you.

For me it's just a bit of fun, I'm not expecting to make a mint (or any money at all), but my £25 will last longer than it does in the amusements at Cleethorpes

I opened a cash isa the other week, interest paid 1st of the month. It made £38 this month. 11k but made up to 16k around Xmas.

There's usually a flat fee per trade (£10-ish), never seen anything that made buying a fivers worth of shares a sensible option before. Usually think in terms of £1k minimum.

Then there's the spread - the difference between the Buy price and the Sell price.

So that's where the money handle usually gets cranked but I can't see much income upside for this actual platform. Hopefully it puts the wind up a few others and they cut their charges.
