Please ban me from the BMW showroom.

Post by Scotsrich »

Another ‘last bike I’ll ever own’…I think that’s at least the 3rd now.

2024 GS 1300 Trophy 1250 miles fitted with 1250R bars to get it through the gate. Only thing I’m not really happy with is the spoked wheels but they seem to be in the majority.

I’d been investigating the logistics for a while and been discussing it with the salesman. He actually brought a 1300R down to check, even though mine fits easily. I was pretty sure it was possible but was concerned about the hand guards adding that bit extra.

I got a phone call yesterday ‘guess what I’ve got sitting on my desk?’ Only a set of 1250R bars. We did a bit of measuring and comparing and came to the conclusion it would go through…just.

It’s being done in their workshop which is good. I suspect they were as curious as me and it’ll add an extra string to their bow for anyone else with the same problem.

Gotta love my wife.

As she pointed out in the 25 years we’ve been together she can probably count on the fingers of one hand anything I’ve bought ‘for myself’ All I seemed to do was work and sleep.

Now I’m retired her thoughts are if it makes you happy then buy it. She’s just happy that I’m happy.

I love this. Not just the NBD.

One of my favourite people in the uk has told me he's buying his last ever bike quite a few times - it's kinda true cos he doesn't swap them, he's got about 6 now   from a limited edition R1 to an old 'looking' Triumph 900i :) :)

Every now and then he'll send a text cos he's been out on one of them and had a blast, so he texts me cos he's happy about bikes !!

Hope you have loads of fun on your new bike - enjoy lots :bblonde: :bblonde: :bblonde:

Well this is going to be an interesting conversation with Motorrad.

I was taking all the aftermarket bits off the R and giving it a clean and saw

The new bike is paid for and getting delivered Thursday. They didn’t inspect the R at any time, just gave me a price without seeing it.

Is it just the paint?

The black engine paint on my 2016 Triple Black is fucking awful. I think a lot of them got new engines under warranty because of it.

The paint is bubbling.

It’s under warranty so normally with BMW it’s a new engine. Hopefully they’ll just take it in and it’s their problem rather than mine.

Decided to go up tomorrow and see the salesman.

He’s a friend so I don’t want him to land in the shit with taking in a bike that’s got problems and not inspecting it beforehand. They did that when I bought my first GS but that was a bike that’s got would just be going to auction and they were happy with just a picture. Presumably my R would be getting sold as a BMW approved bike.

There’s only really 2 options, either the sale just carries on as normal or it gets cancelled and I claim on the warranty for a new engine.

They supplied the bikes in the first place. And I would guess from the comments on here that its is not the only GS or other to have issues.
I was stunned when I came to sell my GS 1150. It had lived in CH is a heated garage, and a couple of years in the UK. Alwats washed, never seen salt etc ... yet the coating on the fork braces was crumbling !
Fortunately not on the engine - UKGSer were full of stories.

Oddly I went to the SuperBike Shop in Crawley to have a look. I had heard the stories about poor bike prep. All teh looked great - bar the BMW Nine Ts that looked like they had all been stored in a compost heap

A new engine for some flaking paint? What madness is this. Why not just paint it?

It is small. A selection of new models and a few second hand, but it’s only BMW’s so they don’t need space for a huge range. They just need one each of the top sellers and the buyer configures whatever spec they want.

The turnover of second hand stuff is probably quick as well.
