Question for the foodies...quick!
Invited to dinner tonight around friends' house. Making dessert and left it a bit late. Thinking a Lemon Curd Eton's Mess-type affair but always feel something like that needs a bit of accompanying crunch and substance. Thoughts?
I'm thinking making some shortbread to serve on the side.
Open to suggestions.

Ain't got time for none of that. Working today and getting my Barnet chopped straight after work, and Mrs. G is out on site visits all day and will knock up the pud when she gets back, hence the Eton's Mess solution. Quick and easy. Serve a few shortbread fingers with it and it it gives it a bit more substance. Plus shortbread is easy and I can make it whilst attending on-line meetings if I keep the camera off.MrLongbeard wrote: Fri Aug 01, 2025 9:38 am A cheesecake, as in an honest to god good old fashioned no frills no fru fru proper cheesecake, or if you're feeling fruity a proper key lime pie
Plus chilled cheesecake is pants. I like a baked NY cheesecake 6 inches high and thick and cloying as you like...

Yeah - something very crunchie like that. (shortbread just seems to turn into dust when you crumble it)Count Steer wrote: Fri Aug 01, 2025 9:48 am Crunch up a few amaretti biscuits for topping.

Re: Question for the foodies...quick!
I'd happily chop a fellas right arm off for one right now, both of 'em for a key lime pie.
I'd fancy it up by using a 50/50 mix of F&M salted caramel biscuits for the base, leaving half of the crumb oversized for a bit of texture, clean, plain, sharp.
Anywho, my old mantra is if you've got room for dessert then the preceding meal wasn't good enough.

TBF lemon curd and Eton Mess is already stretching it!
Crumble up some cheese and onion on the top
Lu do some nice butter galette / biscuits that would work
