Adolesence : Anyone watched it yet?
It's worth the 4 hours investment - but very grim as a 60 plus year old looking at how kids behave and are influenced.
That said it was slight perplexing to whatch BBC Breakfast this morning to see Stephen Graham and the writer discussing toxic masculinity, incels etc. But two old blokes talking about the issue - with no attempts by the BBC to engage in a discussion with yoof themselves - kind of odd!
The other irony being that Mr Graham had to be physically removed from a sunday league football match in Leicestershire. He was watching his son play football and started gobbing off at the referee with a variety of threats. Making Adolesence certainly got through to him

I gave it 15 mins and binned it... I'm quite fussy with things i can or can't watch and it either gets me early on, or it gets binned.

Was going to watch it but haven't bothered after a lot of negative reviews from people.

I haven't seen any negative reviews...I was more put off by how glowing they all seemed to be.Taipan wrote: Tue Mar 18, 2025 11:18 am Was going to watch it but haven't bothered after a lot of negative reviews from people.
The plural of 'anecdote' is not 'data'.

Re: Adolesence : Anyone watched it yet?
We finished watching it last night. Mixed feelings about it really. It does worry me a lot to see (assuming it's relatively accurate) the messed up, toxic world that youngsters grow up in. I've grandchildren and this puts a whole lot of pressure on my kids as parents. Something we didn't have to consider. Bullying, the odd scuffle and that was generally it. But now....oh boy!
The series was good up until the last part. I felt it was dragged out, but understand that they needed to show the impact on others.
It's worth a view, if only to get a sense of the fucked up world we've created thanks to technology and the damn smart phone. Worst invention since the gun IMO.

It's sure a massive level of complexity in this world we're all in now. I'm massively fortunate that mine doesn't seem to get involved in anything too drastic and is a lovely kid. But even now there's certain things in his life where he can/could get dragged into situations really easily. But happily the last scenario he was in he simply laughed at the person, walked away.... but that's just how he is.Buckaroo wrote: Tue Mar 18, 2025 11:24 am We finished watching it last night. Just a local snapshot. Some bailed on it. Some watched it all but seem annoyed at everything from camera work to it being depressing to watch? I've yet to hear anyone say its well worth a watch?Count Steer wrote: Tue Mar 18, 2025 11:23 amI haven't seen any negative reviews...I was more put off by how glowing they all seemed to be.Taipan wrote: Tue Mar 18, 2025 11:18 am Was going to watch it but haven't bothered after a lot of negative reviews from people.![]()

Re: Adolesence : Anyone watched it yet?
I haven’t seen any bad review -in fact totally the opposite . I would agree with Buckaroo that the last hour dragged - I could see what they were trying to do - but. And then one key issue was never addressed!Taipan wrote: Tue Mar 18, 2025 11:18 am Was going to watch it but haven't bothered after a lot of negative reviews from people.
But it is well worth a watch. But it isn’t feel good but thought provoking
Re: Adolesence : Anyone watched it yet?
Episode 3 was good from a cinematic standpoint, one scene. Was well acted. Part 4 went on for ages and got on my tits and I zoned out.
Overall it was OK, not worth the "err mu gurd, it's amaaaaaazing" plaudits it seems to be getting. 5 or 6 out of 10 from me.

Never heard of it, so no I haven't watched it, and based up on the sum total of this thread it's doesn't stand much a a chance of making it onto my telly

I have seen it listed, but tbh these days I tend to avoid pretty much any british made drama, mainly because they make the UK look so fucking depressing to live in and I don't need that.

Re: Adolesence : Anyone watched it yet?
Agreed and why I wont bother watching it. Try this good old-fashioned British farce style film...Rockburner wrote: Tue Mar 18, 2025 2:31 pmSimilar.MrLongbeard wrote: Tue Mar 18, 2025 1:00 pm Never heard of it, so no I haven't watched it, and based up on the sum total of this thread it's doesn't stand much a a chance of making it onto my telly
