Alien life, has it ever visited?

It's not very far fetched to think they're out in the universe somewhere of course, it'd be silly to even think they're not. But have they been? What on earth would they have thought? If they came 5000 years ago and now, would they be pleased or disappointed with the progress made?

No. It's never aliens.

There is a speed limit to the universe, the "speed of light" cannot be exceeded. Yes in theory you simply cannot travel at the exact speed of light and superluminal velocity is not strictly forbidden but it does involve antimatter and if anti matter meets matter you get the biggest explosion possible.

Our galaxy is at least 100,000 light years across. If someone got here 5000 years ago, they would have to have come from inside this red circle which is about 5000 light years on this scale.



That's if they travelled at the speed of light. Naturally they have to decide to come here in particular for some unknown reason, slow down to stop, land and do whatever it is aliens do before leaving for <wherever>. Remembering Homo Sapiens was already here so we weren't "engineered" by them either.

Why does the speed of light need to be exceed? Surely it can be bypassed by technology? Black holes, wormholes, bending of space?

Plus, when you say "can't be exceeded" surely you mean 'within the capacity of our brains and technology currently ' ?

People from the past were just as smart as we are, on average. If you nabbed an ancient Egyptian or Aztec person or whatever and brought them forward to today they would fit right in, after a bit of education.

The existence of apparently advanced ideas 5000 years ago just says to me people were clever in the past too. That's a way simpler explanation for "out of place" ideas.

To carry on that theme: all you have to do is look over some of the things that were patented (but not created) early on in the Industrial revolution. Lots of very clever ideas that simply didn't have the materials technology, or fabrication knowledge to be constructable at the time. Continue that theme back and you have weirdo alchemists dreaming things up but dismissing them as the product of too much fermented grade juice.

Don't see why it needs to be a factor at all. There's a few assumptions going on about how far away they may have come from and how long it took to get here. The speed of light thing only tells you a limit to how far they may have gone since visiting, and they could still be travelling, or dead. They may have abandoned their home planet so there's no point looking to see if their relatives are still home really either.

Scanning the galaxy for signs of life probably won't help much given what we 'see' is what was there when the signal was created. Civilisations could have risen/fallen/moved on by the time the signal arrives here from somewhere umpteen light years away.

PS I don't believe they've visited here, at least not since our ancestors crawled up the beach and started breathing air on a regular basis.
